Faria and Manchester left the line even and battled into turn one . Manchester held a slight lead but couldn't find any traction on the outside, and Faria seized control on the back straight . Manches te r faded back, and Schwartz assumed second. Faria never allowed Schwartz to get clo se , an d the t hree-time National Champi on was first to the checkered flag. Schwartz settled for secon d, with McConnell third and Manchester fourth . The evening was marred by a pair of crashes in the same Supp ort heat. Billy Brad en hit the tu rn-fou r wall and le ft the track on a stretche r, but he was on his fee t within minutes. On the restart, Sam Soltz hit the wall in almost the same spot and suffered a broken femur, The two crashes resu lted in a delay of a pprox ima te ly 4S minutes.
