Pleasure Riders Hillclimb McKay's Perfect at Pleasure Riders Hillclimb By BUD NORTHRUP CAYUGA, IN, JUL 11 Y are d McKay, an 18-year-o ld young gun from Neoga, Illinois, had a perfect day at the Pleasur e Ride rs hillclimb on July 1I, as he won all th ree classes he ent ered and also claimed the Fast Time trophy and $100 cash. Fast Times don 't com e easy. though , and McKay had to come from behind to do it. Y oung Justin Tren t topped the hill in 4.462 seconds on his CRSOO in the first rou nd of the 600cc class to take the fast time into the second half. The time held up fo r a lo ng time in the big class , until Mc Kay card ed a 4 .359 ~s e c ond time on his KX540. Cody Jen ne r also slipped under 'Ire nt's time with a 4.381-second time on his CR500, taking seco nd place for the second day in a row. J M c Kay ' s ot her w ins came in t he ve ry compet itive 2SDcc class and t he Ope n Stock d ass. His 4.596-second first-ro und time on his classy YZ250 in the 250cc class he ld up all day, wi t h Mar k Schroed er coming clo sest t o him with a 4.789 -second time o n his YZ250. McKay wa s just as e ffect ive in th e Open Stock class , posting a first-round 5.0 I I-second time o n his CR450 F Hon da. though Tom 8 ro wn came close to him in t he se con d round with a 5.092 ·second time on his CR500. The clu b a lso awards a Yout h Fast T ime tr o phy, an d Kleven Hillard claimed it. Hillard, rid ing his KX8 0, sai led high over the top in 5.420 seconds to take the Senior Mini-class win and the big t ro phy. Shane Gree n was sec on d w ith a 5.660-seco nd time . John Michael Goe ke n nearly repeat ed his th r-ee -class-wi n performan ce of the night be fo re , win ning both the 45 0cc and 600cc Four-Stroke classes on his H o nd a 4S0cc thumpe r, He had t o settle for second, however, in the 400cc Stoc k class, as National Champion Mark Schroeder took that class w in with a 4.588-second run, edging out Goe ke n, w ho had carded a 4 .646-s ec ond time . This event mark ed a co meback of so rts for a numbe r of ride rs. T he Mini class saw the re turn of JMP Kawasaki rider Justin Panapinto , and that wa s go od news, Pan ap int o had bro ken two bon es early in th e yea r and was just now able to re turn to raci ng, How d id he do? Well, in the first 85cc Junio r mota , he had so me problems and c o uld o n ly ga rne r sixth pl ace . While Panapinto was getting back into the groove of things, Suzuk i ride r Blake Schilling was out front and ta king the mot o win, with Mitch Britt and Trevor Lawrence in to w. In the se co nd mota, Panapinto was up front wit h the leaders, and he finished th ird for th e mo ta and t hird ove rall. In front of Panapinto, Schilling and lawrence were dic ing on their Ye llow mach ines in the battl e fo r the w in. Schilling again finished first for th e mota and o ve ra ll, w ith lawrence se co nd fo r the mote 64 and overa ll. Th e 250 cc B class also w e lco me d bac k a Justin . SoCa I/Ma xxis /S idi /A DR/Owen rider Justin Pinckard made his return to racing afte r br ea king his arm in April . In th e first mota, Pinckard d idn't get th e best jum p ou t of the gat e, but by th e tim e t he pac k ro und ed the seco nd tu rn , he was running second , be hind Honda rider Eric Goetz. Pinckar d and Go etz put so me room o n the re st of the pack ea rly on . On the seco nd lap. Pinckard started to fade , w hile Goetz was still hard on th e gas. By the e nd of the moto, Pinckard had dr o pped back to fo urt h aft er letti ng Michae l Jam e s an d We s Donaldson arou nd . T he second mo to see med to be mo re of the sa me , as both Pinckard and Goetz go t good starts and again ran away fro m the pack. Both riders we re jump ing the big triple on the bac k side of th e t rack, and th is proved to be too much fo r Pinckard 's arm, as a hard landing put him out of the race. Up front, Goetz was gone! Goetz put in som e very fast lap times and took the mo to and ove rall w in. With Pinckard o ut , James a nd Donaldson again mo ved into t he second and th ird sp ots, re spec t ive ly, for the moto and overall. "I tr ied, but my arm kept go ing numb, and I just could not hold o n," Pinckard said. Frankenfie ld led t he pack o n his 750 , but Denning powered by on the 4&6 Racing RI. Junge mo ved up on the Vesrah 1000 to challenge ; w ith and w ith tw o laps to go , and co ming up on a lapp ed rider, Junge sq ueezed by into turn 12 to snatch the le ad . De nning motored bac k to le ad to the w hite flag. but with the checkers in sight, Junge again grabbed the lead in tu rn 12 and took the victory by a wheel. "I was trying 16.5 Pirelli slicks ; Larry wa s hard to pass, but my tires just stayed w ith me , and I got him in the kink," Junge co ncluded. 40th Anniversary Scott Collins used his Y amaha to hunt do wn the leade rs in the C Supe rbike final. First , he swept by Bra ndo n Parrish; the n, he po wered by the batt ling leaders, Ca lvin Bar nett and Tom Hughey. Another three-way battle develop e d in B Supe r-stock Novice , Brian Moo re t oo k the early lead . Charles Co leman then moved u p, but o n the lap that coun ted , Collins was ther e o n his 600cc Y amaha. The Speigler Brake Line man, Matth ias Schaub , co nt inued to do minate (he ValuCycie Senior se ries. The A Superstock Final was the race of the day. Com ing into this event, Fritz Kling had the tra ck record ( I:07:6), but he felt a new reco rd w o uld be se t tod ay. Jung e took his Ves ra h Suzu ki 1000 to the early lead . Fra nk e nfie ld moved into t he lead on his 750cc Suzuk i. RImo unted Kling was seco nd , with a fast -clo sing Den n ing hot o n his he el s. Tw o laps lat er, Denn ing too k the Yamaha RI into the lead with a record lap of I:07:29. Junge regained second. Kling and Frankenfield stepped it up a notch and moved into second and third, respecti vely, tw o laps late r. Kling tried every trick in his historic bag, but at th e checkered flag he cam e up a wh eel short, as Denning took the victo ry and the Yamah a contingency mon ey. " I feel good about t he trac k record , " De nning stated, "but with the WERA Nationals comi ng in Se ptem ber, I don't thin k it will last... Junge came roaring back in the B Supe rst ock Expert final to lead the first three go -arounds .
