Kawasaki jockeys Zachary Riggins, Brand on Champagne and C o ry Lac os te and Yamaha ri de rs Ta nn e r McDaniel, Damon Arcenaux and Phillips struggled to recover. Phillipswent down on a jump face and recovered to follow Lacoste in fou rt h. Arcenaux m ov e d int o se co nd, wh ile Steven W illiams secured third - and Ch ambers co ntinued to buy rea i estate ou t fro nt . By halfway. Phillips had his groove and second place . in front o f W illiam s, Lacoste, Riggins and Kirby Dodd. At the checkered flag, it was Cham be rs with a IO-second victory, with Arce naux in second. Phillipspicked himse lfup for the second time to claim third . C ham bers repeated his fe at in the second mot e , q uickly bu ild ing a lead , whi le Phillips took five turns to cut through the pack into th ird . At th e hairp in/dou ble, Phillips passed Arcenaux to fin all y gain clea r sai ling for hi s " C ham bers Charge." Th ey left a fou r-rider e ntanglement in t he ir wake at th e hairpin . So on , Chambers coul d hear "Supe rfly" behind him , and the race changed from "chase " to "dod ge bike." Philli ps too k advantage of a lapper at the hairpin/double to m ake his move into the lead, but it didn 't hold, as Phillips put his Bard well Yamaha down twice , spotting Chambers an insur mou nta ble 2S-second lead , w hich he turned into victory. In the first l25c c Novice mota, Port Vincent's Warren Virgets and Mandeville's O.J. Cortez picked up right where they'd left off the previous weekend in Kentwood to see who could finish strongest. Virgets was winning until the last lap , when Cortez snatched the lead. Side by side, the Champion Cycle KTMs drag-raced down the back straightaway until Virgets retook the lead fo r good . The fun ended when Virgets endoed on the harpin double , scaring the crowd and leavingCortez to go on alone . Virgets finally got up to finish the race with a broken rear fender and some new bruises.
