"That Yamaha R I really suits me now," said Pic o tt e , w ho also es tab lishe d a ne w track record in qualifying w ith a lap time o f I: 16.508, smashing the old mark by more than a second. "It's started to grow on me. I feel confiden t pushing it hard right fro m the get-go because the bike feels good . At the first round , we weren't quite there, so we just went back and worked a little harder." By qual ifying on po le, winning bo th races, and leading the most laps In each , Picotte moved into a I S-po int lead over Steve Crevier in the championship standings, 151-136. After starting 16th in both races in Calgary after his DXS D iablo Racing Suzuki GSX·R I 000 exceeded the class ' 170·hp limit in qualifying , Crevier charged brilliantly to second -p lace finishes, behind Picotte. In the first race, Crevier was up to second before the end of the first lap, pass ing most of his rivals on the long dragstrip front straight off the st art. The following day, Crevier battled with local ace Clint McBain for second most of t h e way, fina lly pass ing the Coors Light Racing/Blackfoot Suzu ki GSX·R IOOO two laps from the end. Soon after lostng the runner-up spot, McBain wen t off course and slipped to a fourth-place fin ish , beh ind the Honda Canada/Fast Comp any Honda C BRIOOORR of Brantford, Ontario's Jordan Szoke. McBain had Alec Watts (83) leads Tyler Riehl (81) in the 80cc Inte rmediate class at Oregon 's Portla nd Inte rna tio na l Raceway. finished th ird the previous day and lies third in the Superbike standings, with I I 7 points. Picotte also leads the Hind le Exhaust Pro 600cc Sportbike stand ings after taking a win and a second-place finish In Calgary. Riding a Yamaha YZF·R6, Picotte held off the Suzu ki GSX-R600 of Crevier fo r the win in the first race, w hile po les itter McBain settled for th ird aher a poor start. The following day, Calgary native and AMA Superbike Series regular Chris Peri s de lighted the home crowd w ith his first -ever Canadian national victory on a Suzuki GSX-R600 . Picott e was sec ond and Szoke th ird , aboard a Honda CBR600RR. Pico tte now has a commanding 23 -po int lead over McB.in in the Pro 600cc Sportbike standings, 138 · 11S, with C re vie r in third on 100. Teel (3. 3) finished th ird , and Morring (6-4 ) took fourth . Roundi ng out the top five was JakBakz rider Barn es (5- S). After a successfu l showing last m o nth . PIR tried some pit-bike racing again. and. as before , there was an awesome turnout. In the Amateur class , Taylor Jansen and Justin Wharton went head to head for the win . In the first mo ta . Wharton won by more than 10 seconds, followed by Jansen and Cory Marshall. The second mo ta was a different sto ry, though . as W harton started d e ad last while Ja nsen motored off. Wharton caught up to Jansen In the last few comers. but Jansen held him at bay to take the w in. Jansen (2- 1) took a well-earned overall win , whIle the Xtreme-mo unted Wharton (1-2) finished second.
