Th e day was also billed as the Geo rgia State C hampionship and was a q ualifier for the upcoming Po nca City Amateur N at iona l. Als o , t he weeke nd was t he la st chance for riders to get in some time on the t rack in p re pa ra ti on fo r th e AMA Lo retta Lynn's Youth Regional Championship to be he ld he re in June . Th e 326 entries o n race da y com - bined with Saturday's paid-pra ct ice sessions bro ught t he to ta l number of pa rticipa nts to nearly 600. Trac k condi tions for Saturday 's practice were nearly perfect . Cond itions on race day. however, were rainy and wet. This was P.J. La rse n' s first time racing at Lazy River, and the Team Green rider p ut a positive spin on the tra ck conditions . "We got to ride the track dry on Saturday and muddy on Sunday,- said Larse n. "Wh en we co m e back here fo r the Regional , we 'll be ready for any kind of condition s." The trac k had not been plowed for race day. leaving a solid base under the mud . Alter a halfdozen mo tos were run , however, o ffici als decided to shonen the program to a one-moto form at and to reroute the course around the two biggest wa ter puddles. All SOccclasses were run on a separate course on the grassy infield. The Supermini d ivision was fir s t in t he lineup and , because the track had not yet been rerouted. they ran the full cou rse , including the two "Jet Ski" sections , Larsen got off to a poor start. and Matt Bell led the opening lap. Local ace Caleb Patton splashed past Bell on lap two and he ld on fo r the win , ahead of Bel l. Meanwhile, Larsen 's aggressive efforts to move through traffic only netted h im a d ro w ne d engine and a DN F. Larsen returned to win both the B5cc (9- 13) and 85cc ( 12- 13) divisions in convinci ng style , ahead of Patton and Be ll, respectively. North Carolina's C olton Renaker was the champion in the 65cc ( 10 -1 I) and B5cc (7-1 I) classes . His win in the BScc (7- 11) d ivisio n put him into the All-Stars Tou r poin ts lead. LilZ Racing's Jacob Riley took the initiallead in the 12Scc C co ntest, only to crash back to fou rth o n the last lap. Riley found traction and quickly charged back to a second-place finish. His fellow Virginian Mark Frazier won the race aboard his Fencepros-backed Yamaha . Dylan Mue hlbe rger earned the final pod ium pos ition, ahead of A11Stars Tour po ints leader Hank Grant. In the 12 5cc Youth div ision , KTM 's Tyler Horne led the race from start to finish. In the 12Scc B contest, how eve r, Horne was buried in the pack at the start. Horne reco ve red to finish third . North Carolina's Eric Bean won the class, over Michael Hawk of Kentuc ky. Meanwhile, Cameron Stone crashed and w as sidelined with injuries . Steve Ayler and Rick Pearce finished fo urt h and fifth in both the 450cc and Open Pro events. The Tr op hy Dash fe atu r e s t he top two r id e r s from th e Pro , 4S0cc and Amateur cont ests. Aft er one la p, the la s t ri d e r is elim inated ; anothe r lap, and t he las t r ider is removed, leaving th e four fastest for a two-lap dash . Wh en it was over, Y arrow had the win . Pursley ran away with t he 250 F main , followed by Nathan Flud and Cobb. T his was the first 250F-c1ass ev ent held at Mesa , and it was a big hit. Th e Open Amateur ma in event was a great race . Lucas jetted o ff th e line and into the lead . Scotty Nakamura gave chase in second. Bryson Hopfe made his way through the pack to come in th ird. Nakamura got around Lucas for the win .
