Woods Wins Honey Lake WOReS I Briefly... ~ Due to overwhelming feed back from racers interested in the Moto-X-Country debut, May 29 at the High Point National, Racer Productions has revised the Moto-X-Country schedule. Motocrossers competing on Thursday and Friday as part of the High Point Amateur weekend will have the opportunity to compete in two MXC classes , each racing for a full 45 minutes . The new schedule alternates 45-minute race s for youth riders on minicycles w ith classes for adult age classes , so all riders can get a break between races . In add ition, the pro race will ta ke place at I p.m., so spectators can check out the action without missing Saturday's pro MX practice. The MolO-XCountry track features four miles of fast woods and Euro pea n GP-style grasstrack. The course resembles a long motocross track more than a hare scrambles course, so motocross riders should find themselves right at home on the natural terrain, Up to seven classes will run at o ne time, with 30 sec onds separating each starting row. The AMA is urging motorcyclists to co ntact their law make rs to support a measure to crack down on individuals who knowingly damage public land , which cleared the U.S. House Resources Committee on May 5. The measure, H.R. 324 7, the Trail Re sponsibility and Accountability for t he Improvement of Lands (TRAIL) Act, was reported out to the full House for further cons ideration. "Th e passage of this measure wi ll have a pos itive impact on our environment and signifies a victory for the vast majority of recreation ists who enjo y ou r public lands responsibly and generate billions of dollars for local economies," said Patrick Holtz , t he AMA:s Washingto n repre sen tat ive . "Th is bipart isan bill willgive federalland manage rs the tools they need to ma ke sure t hat those w ho consciously vio late rules on public lands pay t he price." Larry Smith , executive director of the group Ame ricans for Responsible Recreational Access , also is pleased that the legislation is winding its way through Congress. "T his is important legislation for the American recrea tio n community," Smith said. "ARRA has enjoyed working closely with the AMA and other recreation groups in support of this bill.Working toget her as we have in support of H.R. 3247 shows that we can make a difference." Co nce rned motorcyclists can urge their federal lawmakers to support this legislation by sen ding the m a message through the Rapid Respo nse Center at the AMA:s website at www.AMADirectllnk.com . The TRAIL Act, introd uced by U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Co lorado), provides for consistent enforce ment o f land use , protection and management regulations by the fed e ral Burea u of Land Management, the National Park Se rvice , the U.S. Fish and W ildlife Service , and the U.S. Forest Service . Cu rrently, those agencies impo se different pen alties on recreational users who damage public land. Also, the measure substantially increases the penalties on individ uals who willfullycause damage to designated trails. Any fines collected would be used for rehabilitation and trail awareness programs at that trai l. The progress of this law enforcement-related legislation is especiallycrucial at this po int as the U.S. Forest Service beg ins work on new rules to manage motorized recreation in national forests by requiring motorized vehicles to follow des ignated trails and routes.
