Motorcycles Roll Into Rockefeller Center yle Lovett kicked off the 2004 Rockefeller Cen ter Motorcycle Show with an appearance on the "Today Show." The multitalented Texan and longtime en thusiast spoke with NBC morn ing man AI Roker about the show that 's just across SOth Street from the "Today Show " studios ; the show opened on May 19 and runs through June 6. Lovett stuck aro und for the opening night festivities where the motorcycle industry mixed with the music industry at a party part ly sponsored by L ufacturers. T he entrance faces the fam o us Rockefelle r Center Skat ing Ri nk, Ch anne l Garden s, and Saks Fifth Avenue, which has a scooter and sport bike on display. The bulk of the co llection is on the concourse level, w hich is open to the public, free of charge, from ea rly morn ing until we ll into the night. A number of subway lines service Rockefeller Cen ter wit h thousands of commut ers and tourists conti nually Interscope Record s. The show is the secon d at Rockefeller Center, this one w ith an eclectic collect ion of 45 moto rcycles 23 on loan from the Barbe r Vintage Motorsports Museum that spans more than 40 years of moto rcy- cling. A 1961 Harley-Davidson FL Duo- Glide Spor t Solo is the oldest machine, and Chad Reed 's 2004 Yamaha YZ-250 Supercrosser one of the newest . Among the Barber contri butions are a 1994 Britte n VI000, one of on ly 10 built by the late New Zealande r John Britte n, the afore mentioned Duo Glide, a rare 1992 Honda NR V-4 (747cc) with oval pistons and eight valves pe r cylinder, and a 1974 Norton John Player Special. Announcing the show at the e ntrance to 30 Rockefeller Ce nter, hom e to many NBC shows including "Satu rday Night Live ," "NBC Nightly News with Tom Bro kaw," and " Late Nigh t with Co nan O 'Brien ," are a pair of scaffolds holding motorcycles vertically, o ne eac h fro m the four Japanese man- streaming thr ough the concourse . Discove r Tod ay' s Mot orcycling (DTM), which organ ized the show, expects 40,000 peo ple to walk through the exhibit daily. DTM has set up a Welcome Cen te r and Gift Shop on S Ist Street, near Sixth Avenue, not far from Radio City Music Hall.
