Round 6 OFF-ROAD :~ AMAlFMF Racing National Hare & Hound Series Defending champ Russ Pearson led at one poi David Pearson made it a 1-2 day for Kawasaki Team Green. local ace Aaron Tuck com paring the Natio nal course to the average District 38 cou rse : "The first loo p was pretty typical. The second loop was a little bit mo re tec hnical than normal, but all in all I'd have to say it was a pretty typical District 38 race." Uke many other regulars on the Nat ional circuit , Destry Abbott had never raced in the area before, so he relied on information prov ided by those who had. "Probably the last time I was here was 10 years ago doing testing," he said. "It was really fast; I was surprised at how fast the co urse was . It's not too often that I finish a race and fee l really good [physically}. I feel I'm in pretty good shape , but usually the Nationals are really tough . [Team Green manager} Reid Nordin helped us out. He and his family came out here camp ing and stuff. He kind of gave me ideas on what to look for. I've got to thank Paul Krause, too, because he told me I'd better thank him for jetting specs if I won . He used to be out here [racing} in his KXSOO days. I asked him, 'What do I run for jetting?' and he to ld me, and it worked out awesome. We ran pretty rich." After the race , Qu inn Cody and Kendall Norman planned to head directly to Mexico to start prerunning the SCORE Baja 500 course . That race will take place on June 5. The Supers tition National drew a small field with I 12 starters and 92 finishers. However, promoter Mike Cuff of Sidewinders Motorsports insisted he wasn't looking for a big field for his first attempt at staging a National. Roger Ansel of AHA Sports was on hand to see how things went. 44 JUNE 2, 200.4 • CYCLE NEWS 40th An Iversary
