Destry Abbott picked u:r his third win of the National Hare & Houn Serie s in Ocotillo. section; the course together. We started drag racing to the course, and we were hitting bushes. We were hair-balling it. "Destry ended up passing me and came into the pits first," Pearson said. "Leaving the pits, I'd walked the first about half-mile after the pits, and I picked a better line than Destry did and ended up getting around him. I led it for about five or six miles. I'd say. then slid out going down a sand wash . Destry got around me , and he rode well after that." David's cousin Russ Pearson had a busy second loop and, at one po int, took the lead , but it didn't last for long. "O n th e se co nd loop we kind of swapped back and forth a litt le bit - David and Destry," Russ said. "It seemed they swapped back more than I did, but I had caught them and actua lly got in the lea d for one little second, then the y both got back by me . In the sand, I was able to catch back up to David , and I passed David, and I could see Destry. I was about 15 seconds beh ind him; that's whe n I just missed the course - I could not find it. I went up on a sand hill looking for it, and I could not find the course . David finally came, and somehow he saw Destry 's track; he saw it and dropped down [a dune) and dropped out of sight, and I still couldn't find it!" eN SUPERSTITION DRY LAKE O COTILLO, CAUFORNIA RESULTS: MAy 15, 2004 (ROUND 6 OF 8) a lA:.
