SegaJe finally took the overall
in. With a record 986 riders showing up to do battle in dusty con ditions , Segale's first overall victory did
not come easily.
Beautiful, cloud-free skies greeted the
racers lined up 10 abreast on Virginia
City's quiet main street, ready to leave in
IS-second intervals. This year 's event featured a very demanding 25-mile course
that included the infamous, rocky Sutro

Canyon. Saturday's Novice race had
made the course very rough, so the
Virginia City Motorcycle Club made it
even more challenging by reversing the
direction for Sunday.
David Meek Jr. was the first off the line
after having the highest bid for a minuteand-a-half head start on the first row.
GPRlO'Neal/FMF-backed Segale, who
started on the first row, got a bad start
when he got taken down on the pavement with two other riders .
"I was furthes t on the right side, and
they just slid into me," Segale said. "That
