Belingheri pulled into the pits and decided to call it a day. By the end of the second lap. Segale had passed Meek and stretched out a two -minute lead. Sam Key made up time and pulled up to the Reno Moto rsportsbacked Tichenor. "I caught Tichenor, and we had a great battle," Key recounted . "We raced toge ther the whole second lap." Also battling were IS-year-old Chad Martin and 16-year-old Reece Honea, for fi fth place. Bot h Virginia City locals. "We were pushing each other so hard that we started to make up a lot of time on Key and Tichenor," explained Martin. Segale was still in the lead, but Key had taken ove r second , followed by Ticheno r, Seeliger and a tiring Meek. Honea 's run ended when he hit a rock in Sutro Canyon and bro ke his cases . The heat was affecting Martin, who took an exte nded pit stop to rehydrate. Segale was making 52-minute lap times, giving him a slim chance of finishing his fourth loop in time to make a fifth lap. "I was charging pretty hard to make the fifth lap," Segale explained. "I knew only a few guys would be able to go for five." Keywas also riding hard, and he closed the gap to just a minute behind Segale. "I seem to get strong er at the end of the race ," Key said. "I was try ing to wea r these guys down and get into the lead on the fifth lap." At the end of their fourth lap, Segale missed making a fifth lap by 30 seconds . "I would have liked to make five, but I was starting to get a little tired ," Segale said. "It feels really good to finallywin th is one . I have been coming here for so long." Key was the next through , followed by Ticheno r and Seeliger. Worley had a steady ride for fifth, followed by Martin, Justin Soule, Meek.
