After four laps and 10 lead changes, Muterspaugh finally made a move stick in the back section . After a hot battle, Lusk pass ed Perry t he final t ime through the whoops to capture third. Overall , the order was Mut e rspaugh , Martin , Lusk, Perry and Armbruster. In the 250cc class, Muterspaugh snared the holes hot, followed by Isha Woods, 5co tt ie Shipley and Martin . CCS Florida Reg ion Moroso Motorsports Park Martinez Biggest Winner at Moroso By LISA THEOBALD WEST PALM BEACH, FL, MAR. 21 M arco Martinez was the winningest racer at Moroso, taking home four first-place trophies. three seconds, a third and a fifth. Among his victories was t he hot ly co ntested Expert Unlimited Grand Prix race, better known as the Shootou t. The race schedule had to be adjusted due to an unusually high number of red -flag incide nts and o ne e xtended o il-cleanup sit uat io n. A mechanical failure o f o ne race r 's oil cooler during the GT Lig race caused the worst oil hts spill ever a t Moroso , se nd ing e ight riders cras hing through the turn -five/six c hicane . There were no injuries as a resu lt o f t he incide nt, and most of the riders we re able to restart the race (ollow ing t he track's longest cleanup to date . The remaining GT classes were shortened from nine laps to six. Also, following additional re d-flag incidents , seve ra l of th e afternoon races were shortened to five laps in an effort to complete the event before sunse t. The final race finally got unde r way about 2 1/2 hours be hind schedule. Ed Lis led the first lap of the Shootout, with Marti nez a nd Jim Pihokken in hot purs uit. By the end of lap one , the race had broken into a three-rider batt le for the lead . Martinez mad e the winn ing pa ss halfway thro ugh lap two, outpowering Lisdown the back straig ht . T he n he sta rte d to step away fro m t he rest of the field . Behind him, Pihokke n had a lso outpowe red Lis, taki ng over second place. By t he end of lap five, the front-runners had spr ead to more than 20 bikelengths apa rt . Mart inez was ru nni ng all alone up fro nt, and he took the checkered flag wi t hout c ha llenge . Pihokken , Lis, jo h no Bowman and Dave McEnery rounded out the top five. Martinez a lso won the Unlim ited Supers port , He avyw ei gh t Supe rs port and Middleweig ht Gra nd Prix races. He finished se cond in Mid d leweig ht Supersport, Middleweigh t Superb ike an d Heavyweight Superb ike, third in the GTO, and fifth in GTU. Pihok ken won t he GTO race after nailing the holeshot. He finished third in Heavyweight Supersport, fourth in Middlewe ight Supe rbike, and fifth in Middlewe ight Supersport. Lis won the Formula 40 race after taking an early lead . He lat e r won the Heavyweight Super bike race , finished second in Heavyweight Supersport and fourth in GTO . A few other Expert riders we nt home w ith multiple wins. Bowman claimed victory in the GTU and Midd leweight Supersport race s. He also finished fourth in the Shootout and fifth in GTO . Michael Mills won the Ligh t w ei ght Super bike and Thunderbi ke races on his Prieto Racing -sponsored SV6S0 . The weathe r was dear and cool , without the typical forecast of snow and rain from years past. The event started with sandy fire cuts , one bike-sucking mudhole at 2.9 miles, a 6-mile warm-up jaunt t hro ugh thirdgear trail s, and a nice , hea lthy reset to give everyone a chance to shake out the bugs. The seco nd test consisted of a start control, n ine miles of very tig ht sc rub pine and mudholes, a microscopic reset, anot he r start con trol, and nine mor e miles of the same stuff on the way back.
