Mu ch to th e delight of the promoter. AMP Rac ing , the stat e-owned facility got a major fac elift over the summer, including the add it ion of more than 30 loads of sand . Tra ck condition s were c ert ain ly rou gh er, but dust was almost nonex istent thro ughout t he weekend . eve n wi th m ore than 700 r id e r s co n t e st i ng 66 moto s. Oak ley Spor t /Posey Rac ing /TCR / IRS backed Matt McCrummen found the cond i tio ns to hi s li ki ng (a nd somewhat familiar). as he ea rned a pa ir of hard -fought wins in the 250cc Pro cla ss. McCrummen, who regu larly practic es on a sand track . took on an 11 -rider fie ld and c ha sed down leader Br ian Roth in both m o to s t o take th e overall o n the day . Roth, who just rec ently became a Pro Ac tion deaier, obviou sly had his YZ250F sus pens ion dial ed. as he negotia ted th e track in smooth fash ion and pu t a gap o n the field ear ly on . Ho wever. McCrum men , who sta rted ou t in aro und fourt h both times ou t, had the speed and. m ost impo rtant ly , th e endurance. as 10 laps proved too tough for m an y . McCrum m en n ever slo wed, dici ng hi s way t h roug h t he pa c k. batti ing briefl y w ith th e likes of Adam M ill er and Billy J urevi ch for the even tual w ins . M ille r tr ied to m atc h McCru m m cn' s pace and was actua lly the second -faste st guy ou t there. as he turned in a 3 -2 moto sco re fo r second overall, while Roth rou nded out th e top th ree with a 2-3 effort . "T he track was real rough , and endu ran c e h ad a lo t t o do w it h it ," sa id McCrummen . " Bu t Roth rod e reall y go od. a nd I knew if I kept pace with him. I co uld o utlast him . A s the nine-lap rac e p rogressed , Sherman fou ght to hold on to th ird. as Korla et began to put di stanc e on th e field . It was un clear as to wh at was wrong with Sherman' s ma ch ine. as each t im e h e c a me b y the m echan ics ' ar ea , he gav e no indication of a prob lem. Ko rla et, wh o finished fourth in moto on e. took th e win . fol lowed by St an Fin ney and Sherman. As th e riders exit ed th e track . Sherman was the point of int erest ; a look do wn at his tires to ld the story.
