With the ove rall win and perhaps th e cha mpionship on th e line, Wink elbau er pa ssed Harris and appeared to be on his way . Wit h two turns to go , a lapp er unfort unately ended up in the corner at the same ti m e that Harri s and Wink elba ue r arr ived . Th is was the team race 's fou rth stra ight year, and bo th a m ini divisio n and a bi g -b ik e division joi ned in th e fun th is ti m e. Th e format is si m p le: Th er e are three riders o n a team, and three gate dro ps per m ot e. with one team mate leaving o n eac h one; the low est tot al score determi ne s th e w in ner. O n th e li tt le bik es , no o ne co ul d sto p th e su pe r team of David Comp ton , Micha el Chapm an and Taylor Davis, as they went one -two -th ree , sco ring the low est poss ible sco re to take the Mi ni titl e by a whopping 27 po ints. O n th e big -bo res, it was th e talented trio of T .J A ute n , T ravi s Sewell and J oe Penrod tak ing to p ho no rs w ith 10 po ints to spa re, as Sewell won th e m ot o goi ng away to seal the vic tory. When th e gate hit t he g ro und , Compto n hit the gas , an d he was th e leader of the pa ck as w ave o ne of the Mini t eam race ro ared th rou g h tu rn o ne. Davis w atched hi s te am m ate lead th e way and foll owed sui t on ga te dro p two , while Br ett Wagn er held th e ad van t ag e a round turn o ne i n g at e dro p thr ee . Co m pto n had cl ear sailin g ahead, and he used it well , pu tting tim e on t he p ack w it h eac h passing seco nd . O n lap two, Davi s and Tim Walk er were in a f i ght ove r seco n d . T h e batt l e for fift h betw een Wag ner and Cha pma n was a barn burn er , as the two Mi ch igan speedste rs were at eac h othe r's throat s. With on e lap to go , Co m pto n w a s s ki ll f u ll y w orkin g h i s w a y th rou gh lapped traffi c wi th spee d and grace , on his way to a large lead . Wal k er found a way around Dav is, but a tip -ov er with less th an a lap to go put hi m on the wr on g end of the battl e and behind both Davi s and Chapm an. Wag ner was runn ing fifth when a blown m ota sto ppe d him dead in his tra ck s, hand ing fi ft h t o Lew i s Hunt, w h o w a s la y in g d own som e serious lap s. At th e flag , it wa s Compton by a good m argi n. Cha pman found a way around Davis on th e back section of th e track to tak e the ru n n er -up spo t , w h il e D av i s held tough in th ird , despi te pressure fro m Walk er and Hunt. Compton , Cha pm an and Davi s too k th e top pri ze in a runaway w in . Th e ste ady tea m o f Co die By lsma (who p lac ed seventh) , Charles Bloomer (1 2th) an d Zac h Rochefort (1 4 th ) too k ru nner-up ho nors. Th e last team to take ho me one of th e coo l Bad Bru sh Desig n threeman t eam p laques wa s com prised of Taylor Morris (sixth) , Ke nny B ass ( 10th) and Zach Hayes ( 18th) . When th e ga te d ropped fo r the fir st big bike start , Sewell sho t out front, burning up t he track o n hi s RM 12 5 . It was easy to see wh y Sewell is o ne of Michig an ' s fast est 125 cc riders, as he rail ed around th e rolli ng Log Roa d facility at hyp erspeed , pulling out a big lead . Ky le Glass and Anthony Dibb le were at war over second , tr ad ing that positi on m o re than a few tim es on th e fir st co up le of laps. Th e race for first in the second gate drop wa s also good , as Penrod and Robbie Conklin went at all m ot o long . A ute n had his hand s full with Randy Woodr ing , as the two Yama ha riders sli ced throug h th e pack in a fight for th e lea d in the third wav e.
