both walked away, but they were done for the night. On the restart, John Bredfield got the holeshot and was never headed. Old age and treachery triumphed over youth and enthusiasm' as Bredfield won, Troy Renfro finished second, and Matt Schweitzer came home third. Travis Ohge won the SOcc Senior class with a monster lead. Ryan Hiatt used all the tricks his dad had taught him but still came in second. In his first race ever, Tyler Munsell, part of the infamous Renfro/Prospect Racing Team, won the 50cc Beginner class. Tamara Miller finished a fine second. NOll'h.8. Miller won the SOcc Junior class. Castle Rock Race Park Starwest Motocross Park Baker, Celorie Saute 'em Yancey Makes 'em Antsy By JOHNNY GWTAR By ADAM ENTICKNAP CASTLE ROCK, WA, JULY 26 Brad Baker and Chris Celorie each won three classes on this night at the legendary Castle Rock n. Baker showed why he's the 2003 AMA Amateur Grand Champion by dominating the 85cc DTX and Modified classes, not to mention the Mad Dog class. J.D. Beach made a maximum effort to keep Baker in sight but had to settle for second in all three classes. Three was also a lucky number for Celorie, who won the 250cc DTX and Modified classes and also the Vintage/Evolution class. Scott Baker stayed close for second in both 2S0cc classes. Shelby Miiler finished third in the 250cc DTX class, while Dustin Pruczinski came home third in the 250cc Modifieds. Allen Morinville, the veteran of veterans, probably thought that this was his night. After all, he had a lot more experience and almost three times as many ccs as the young upstarts did. Add in a pint of Geritoi and he couldn't miss, right? Wrong. Showing absolutely no respect for his elders, Celorie made a gutsy outside pass on Morinville and simply disappeared into the distance. While Celorie was opening up a huge lead, Brad Mueller decided that second place ought to be his, and he also passed Morinville. John Hall came in fourth. In the Pro classes, Scooter Vernon was untouchable. After convincingly winning the 505cc Pro class, he jumped into the lead in the Wildcat Open Pro main. Jeff Annen and J.P. "Chrome Dome" Simonsen stayed close for the entire race. Late in the race. Annen closed on Vernon. looking for a mistake that never came. Vernon stayed smooth and consistent to hold off the veterans for the win. Six motorcycles and four different brands came to the line for the Twins main event. Triumph. Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki were all represented. Gary Beach got the holeshot on his trusty Triumph, but behind him a war was breaking out. Hall, on the howling Honda, was under intense pressure from Kam Todd, especially late in the race. Gary won, Hall held on for second, and the Todd brothers, Kam and Koby, finished third and fourth, respectively. After they ran so well in their heat races, the Open Amateur main had to be a huge dis· appointment for both Derick Oquist and Pruczinski. They tangled going into the first turn, and both went down hard. Luckily, they MORENO VALLEY, CA, JULY 26 Round five of the AMA Southern California Motocross Series was sponsored by Racers Under The Son at Starwest Motocross Park. where KTM/FMFI Answer's Kurt Caselli won the 250cc Pro class and the Four-Stroke A class, cruising to victory in the hundreddegree heat. Motoworld's Steve Kopy dominated both the Four-Stroke Intermediate and 250cc Intermediate classes. Calcoast/Cycle Gear's Andrew Terry fought hard for his 3-1 moto finishes in the 250cc Novice class, which were good for the overall win. Los Angeles County Raceway: Eventual overall winner Zack Fullmer (419) gets the jump on Ken Slater (260) and Jimmy Patrick (497) in the first 125cc Novice moto at CRC's Saturday night motocross in Palmdale, California. and Justin Sjoberg during the final laps en route to his third-place finish. In mota two, Slater exited turn one with the lead, with Fullmer, Anatol Kozlowski and Raines in his shadow. Fullmer studied Slater's lines for a lap before putting a move on him while coming down off the over-and-under section. Kozlowski quickly dropped Slater to third and then got a better drive out of a corner to overtake Fullmer for the top spot. Kozlowski put a couple of seconds on Fullmer, with Raines working his way past Slater at the midway point. Kozlowski appeared to have the second-moto win in the bag until a miscue on the penultimate lap dropped him back to sixth place. Fullmer inherited the lead, though he had Raines all over his back fender. Fullmer kept Raines at bay right up until 'the checkers to sew up the overall honors on his Pro Circuit/Sinisaio-backed YZ125. Second overali went to Slater on a 1-3 night, with Sjoberg using consistent 4-4 rides for third, over the 7-2 efforts of Raines and the 5-5 tally of Andrew Janes. P/W HON BEG: I.
