660 SGL: I. Jim RlIu (Hon): 2. Danny Farnsworth (Han) and set sail, setting a pace that couldn't be matched on this newly configured circuit. The winner of the 16-24 class, Mike Ivers, on his Yamaha of Troy-backed machine, offered early resistance to Hill, leading moto one of the 250cc Expert contest, only to be passed by Hill, who was on his way to the front. Other than Ivers, though, no one was able to hang with Hill on this day, and he easily won all four motos. The 125cc A runner-up, Steve Jones, put in strong rides for a 2·2 showing, behind Hill. In the 250cc A class, Steve Richards, the winner of the Over 25 A class, scored 3-3 finishes aboard his mighty Honda CRF450R to take second overall, behind Hill. Zach Ames had another brilliant day. The whiz kid struck hard in the 125cc B -and Schoolboy classes, winning both overalls, and he followed that up with a close second in 250cc B competition, behind winner Kyle Preston on his Cernic's Suzuki. Fast Mini star Walker Brightwell was at it again, snapping off some wins in the 65cc and 85cc (7-11) classes, simply hauling on his RM65 and 85cc machines. Kawasaki pilots Steven Mages and Pat Massie had their green machines on "fast" speed. Massie stole the show in the Supermini class, while Mages made magic in the 85cc (12-15) group. Both races featured the retum of Team Green sensation Justin Weeks, who recently returned from an injury. Weeks rode strongly and impressed everyone, placing fourth in the 85cc class and second in the Supermini class, behind Massie. Dave Horn had a toot blasting his way to a couple of wins. The Suzuki rider took both of the Vet Intermediate contests, the Over 25 and Over 30 B classes. F·SGL: I. Jim Rau (Hon): 2. Kt:lth Giglio (Sue). Results Willow Springs International Raceway: Vincent Haskovec wasn't even on the grid when the other racers took off for the Toyota Cup Unlimited Formula One race in Rosamond, California, but he nevertheless managed to take the win. ter end. Haskovec_ had the more powerful engine, but as the talented Czech admitted, he had many issues with his brand-new Suzuki. "Many. many horsepower, and it's very dif· ficult to set up," commented Haskovec. Toye agreed: "I could see that he had a ton more power on me." What made the difference. though, was the tires: Haskovec swore by his new Pirellis. He felt they held up really well. He saw Toye's Suzuki struggling for grip, sliding several times. According to Toye. however, his Dunlops stayed consistent throughout the race, although he took a gamble by choosing much softer tires than did most of the other racers. The duel lasted down to the wire. with several side-by-side passes. Haskovec led Toye through the last lap, although Toye tried to draft him on the back straight. It was pretty close, but the leader was able to protect his line and finish on top, SOO SGL: I. Larry Cochran (Han): 2. Kt:ith Giglio (Bue): 3. Mlck Ofield (Due). F-lW~ 1. A massive throng of F£,S Suzuki riders were on hand as the Treaty City Motorcycle Club, one of the nation's oldest organized motorcycle·enthusiast associations. held a big-time motocross race on its c1ubgrounds, conveniently located below the clubhouse. Round two of the Summer Series was filled with mixed emotions, as Barona Oaks veterans paid tribute to a longtime motocross fan, Leonard Rush. Leonard first brought his son Randy to Barona Oaks in 1977. Randy continues racing today in the Over 30 Intermediate division, and he furthered the tribute by winning this class and then returning to take repeat wins in the 250cc Novice class. The day turned out to be a fitting sendoff for Leonard. Mixing things up out on the track made Tommy McAdams a star in the 125cc events. McAdams took three class wins. in the 125cc Intermediate, 125cc (16-25) and 125cc-andUp Open classes. McAdams had some diffi- culty in the first 125cc Intermediate moto, placing second, behind Kevin Frisbie. McAdams then came back to redeem himself in the following moto. Frisbie was close com· petition all day for McAdams, In the Open event, he pressured McAdams but had to settle for second at the checkers in both motos. Frisbie was again a force to be reckoned with in the age-group contest, but he ended up trailing McAdams in both motos. Joshua Huerta seems mild-mannered, but once the gate drops, the other 85cc riders will tell you he is anything but mild. Huerta quickly put his Kawasaki out front and kept it there in all four motos he entered. In doing so, he took home overall honors in the 85cc Intenne· diate and Supermini classes. Dakota Gamer proved to be his closest competition in the Intermediate class, earning a pair of deuces in the class. In the 65cc wars, Jake Gagne was the young man to beat. Gagne swept aside all the competition in the 65cc (9-11) and 65cc Open events. Chris Cuero has shown he is ready to make the transition from Pee Wee ranks up to the 65 classes. Cuero went 4-1 in the Super Pee Wee event for the overall and then took repeat wins in the 65cc (0-8) class. Starr Savage is no stranger to the winners' podium in the 50cc (7-8) Stock and Modified classes. Once again, he took home the overall honors in both of those events. Results 50 (0-8) Frr SHAFT: I.
