"Ithink this track was made for
me," said George Roeder after
dominating the Old Time Newsies
race for charity. "I wasn't sure which
Canadian was back there. Steve
[Beattie) and Dominic [Beaulac] were
on fire. It has been a pretty awesome
night."
But the 10-time Newsies winner
was a bit somber in celebration, as
his father had recently passed.
"It has been a tough couple of
weeks - really hard on the family but we will get through it," he said.
The "Roeder Era" at the Newsies
continued with National number 66
stealing the lion's share of the
$40,000. Since 1991, George Roeder
has only lost the event three times.
Steve Morehead, Scott Parker and
Chris Evans notched victories at
those three races, with Roeder finishing second twice and sixth once.

A full $25,000 of the purse for this
year's race was in the form of contingency money contributed by more
than 120 dealers, and that along with
the $5000 Edgar Fuhr Dash For Cash
and the $ 10,000 Hot Shoe cash purse
made for the largest non-National
payday in the country.
Though he finished third in the
premier 750-1000 Expert event,
Steve Beattie still came away a winner after a last-corner pass on Cory
McDermitt landed him the 505 Expert
main event win and contingencies.

and Beaulac (right) had plenty to
celebrate after their 1-2-3 finish in the
premier main event of the night.

The 33rd Old Time Newsies' charities were donated to help muscular
dystrophy and the Big Brothers and
Big Sisters of Dayton, and it was the
second stop for the quadruple-header
weekend. The weekend started Friday
evening with AHRMA Vintage racing
and a performance by the Wheelie
Wizard, Saturday featured the Hot
Shoe racing, and the last two stops
for the three days of activities were
the Ride for Charity and a day of
