by KK Motorcycle Supply, and the 750-1000 Expert scratch heats were of high importance, as the winners of the three events, along with the second-place finishers in the two fastest heats, would qualify for the Dash For Cash. Chris Hart, Roeder and Steve Beattie got in as heat winners, while Beaulac and Shawn Clark also met the criteria. Sam Lowe was the odd man out, as he finished second to Beattie in the slowest heat. Roeder served notice that he could focus on the job at hand by winning the 17th Edgar Fuhr Dash. "Things went pretty well," Roeder said. "Dayton is always a bright spot in our season." Chris Hart kept Roeder honest with a great ride. "I just tried to get out front and spray everybody down," Hart said. "It was a rollercoaster ride, and we have work to do." With both heats' being red-flagged, the pole went to Beaulac with the quickest scratch heat time. The only record Roeder doesn't own at Dayton was that of consecutive wins in the event, which is owned by Gary Scott (1980-1984) at five. With a win at the 33rd running, Roeder would eclipse that as well. With Canadians in close attendance, Roeder shot into the lead, and the only problem throughout the entire main was a fall by Shawn Clark in turn one. Clark got up and running but stayed at the inside rail as the field passed. '" thought about getting off the gas but didn't," Roeder said. There was no red flag, and the race continued. Roeder looked loose at the front, and he was flying, with Beaulac, Beattie and Hart giving chase, and that's how it would end. Lowe finished fifth, ahead of R.J. Overholt, Dave Rayburn, Jeff Landrum and Clark. "We struggled with the bike tonight; there was no feedback, so we'll take third," Beattie said. Beaulac was satisfied with second. "I found my smile again!" Beaulac exclaimed. And Roeder was gracious to the end. '" need to find the people from Big Brothers and Sisters," he said. "I promised them that if I won my 1Oth race, I would donate 10 percent of my winnings to them - where is my checkbook?" eN Montgomery County Fairgrounds Dayton, Ohio Results: June 7, 2003 [Round 3] 750·\000 EX: I.
