Louisiana, both overcame poor starts and
raced through the pack together to finish first
and second overall. Kreft won the first moto,
and Waggoner won the second one. Kyle
Chaney used a holeshot in the first moto and
some generous throttle to put his Yamaha in
third overall.
Brandon Hubbard from Laplace. Louisiana,
returned to the racing scene after 2 1/2
months and picked up right where he left off.
He not only ran away from the 65cc (7-9)
class, he caught the older 65cc riders who had
been double-gated well ahead of him. He
passed all of the 10- and I I-year-olds except
front-runner Steven Williams from Baton
Rouge. Williams has stepped up his speed
the last couple of races, and he looks like a
classic example of confidence merging with
experience right before your very eyes.
The Senior B class had arguably the most
exciting race action of the day. Dan Marino
returned to the racing scene with an early
lead, but by the time they reappeared from the
woods, Wayne Simmons had caught Marino
after getting a midpack start on his Suzuki. On
the next lap, Simmons pulled alongside Mari~
no in the whoop section, forcing Marino to
bobble: he lost his balance and had to go off
the track, balancing on one foot. to keep from
crashing. This allowed Simmons and Randy
Fairburn to get by. By the next lap, Marino
was back into second place and holding off
Mac Edmonston in third.
In the second moto, Fairburn and Edmonston battled for the lead all the way to the end,
with Edmonston making a last-ditch pass at
the checkers to take the victory.
In the 85cc (12-15) class, Youngsville,
Louisiana's Chad Dubroc was the rider to
beat. Dubroc won the last couple of weeks on
his Suzuki, butjn the first mota, Devin Evans
took advantage of a costly error by Dubroc
and stole the mota win.
Dubroc came back and won the second
mota and took the overall. Evans finished in
second, and Cole McKee squeezed out D.J.
Cortez (who had suffered a flat rear tire in the
first moto) to take third.
