"I wasn't sure which Canadian was back there. Steve [Beattie) and Dominic [Beaulac] were on fire. It has been a pretty awesome night." But the 10-time Newsies winner was a bit somber in celebration, as his father had recently passed. "It has been a tough couple of weeks - really hard on the family but we will get through it," he said. The "Roeder Era" at the Newsies continued with National number 66 stealing the lion's share of the $40,000. Since 1991, George Roeder has only lost the event three times. A full $25,000 of the purse for this year's race was in the form of contingency money contributed by more than 120 dealers, and that along with the $5000 Edgar Fuhr Dash For Cash and the $ 10,000 Hot Shoe cash purse made for the largest non-National payday in the country. The 33rd Old Time Newsies' charities were donated to help muscular dystrophy and the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Dayton, and it was the second stop for the quadruple-header weekend. The weekend started Friday evening with AHRMA Vintage racing and a performance by the Wheelie Wizard, Saturday featured the Hot Shoe racing, and the last two stops for the three days of activities were the Ride for Charity and a day of amateur racing at the legendary Montgomery County Fairgrounds.
