Mid-South Championship Youth Hare SCrambles Series Round 11: Hazzard Hill Hardin Wraps It Up BY JEFFREY KETCHUM VANLEER,TN,MAR.30 The 11th round of the Mid-South Championship Youth Series was held at one of its summer·race locations. The day was sunny but cool, and there were 57 racers on hand, all looking forward to an outstanding race. The Pee Wee course was a little more than a half-mile long. Off the start. the riders negotiated a short grasstrack before entering the woods section. They came back out onto the grasstrack before being scored. Off the Pee Wee start, KTM-mounted Steven Middlebrook took the lead. followed by Logan P'Pool and Dylan Majors. Middlebrook was able to hold on to the lead until the seventh lap, when P'Pool passed him for the point position. The top five finishers were P'Pool, Middlebrook. Majors. Trevor Vandiver and Jackson Ward. "The track was bumpy and ruddy: Middlebrook said after the race, "and I was glad when it became the last lap'The Mini and Junior A and B track was about two miles long, with all types of terrain. The track went up a rise to a turn and went down a rocky hill, making a huge "u'" around a pond. It continued from there down a rocky logging road and then turned up a hill that zigzagged upward, with knee-deep ruts. The course continued through tight woods with some fast sections before coming at last to the scoring tent. The Mini race started with a bang. Scott Brannon got the holeshot on a stock XR80. On the second lap, Thor/DP Brakes/Magura/ FMF/Sunstar-backed Zachary Nash passed Brannon. On the third lap, Bloomington Powersports/HJC Helmets/Alpinestars/KH Graphics/Indy Steel· sponsored Kody Hardin made a hard charge, passing both Brannon and Nash for the lead. Hardin managed to hold on to the lead to the end, followed by Nash. Brannon, Ryan Cox and Cody Schoettmer. Hardin wrapped up the Mini-class championship for the series, and he thanked all of his sponsors for their support during the year. "The course was rocky and open," Nash said. "It was nice when I passed Scott Brannon on the side of a hill.The Junior B Race started with Jacob Patterson's getting the holeshot. followed by Sean Gentry and Beau Nicewinter. On the second lap, Josh Zanet passed Nicewinter for third. On the last lap, Gentry hit a tree hard but managed to get up and finish the race. The top five finishers were Patterson, Zanet, Nicewinter, Adam Creasor and Gentry. After the race, Bush Motorsports-backed Gentry was checked out by the paramedics; it was determined he was only badly bruised. Chaz Akers got the holeshot in the Junior A race but was eventually passed by Broc Sims. Logan Chilman rode in third until he was passed by VMI/Scott-backed Josh White. Carol County/Yamaha-backed Norman Beetem was able to get around Drew Metelka for fifth place. The top five finishers were Sims, Akers, White, Chilman and Beetem. "The course rocky, nice and tacky," White stated. "I want to thank my dad, VMI and Scott." The youth once again thanked Paul Allen and his crew for putting on another great race_ Everyone's looking forward to the next race. which will be a makeup race for round six.
