could turn it on."
At the beginning of the fourth lap, Poteete
went down hard, allowing Trav Tacker to get
close to him. Tacker was only seconds behind
Poteete going into the last lap of the day. The
KX250-mounted Tacker took off in pursuit
and finally took third place from Poteete, and
then turned in his fastest lap of the day,
putting himself 23 seconds ahead of Poteete
at the finish.
Weisenfels overheated his back brakes on
the last lap, which caused him some grief. The
brake problems didn't slow him down much he took the win by one minute and 30 seconds over Carr.

Nestled in the Ozark Mountains is some of the
most beautiful land in Arkansas. At Byrd's
Campground, one can canoe, swim and also
ride motorcycles in the hills. This was the site
of round two of the Arkansas Hare Scrambles
Championship Series. The 8-mile trail was
half grasstrack and half woods. The ground
was perfect, without any mud or dust. There
also was a new section of woods that contained about 1.5 miles of fresh, tight trees and
rocks.
Going into the first corner, a field of riders
raced for the holeshot, with Kawasaki-mounted Josh Poteete taking the lead. On the first
straightaway, KTM of Fayetteville's Josh
Weisenfels was right on Poteete's back tire.
Going into the grasstrack section, Poteete
went into a corner and hit neutral.
"I thought that I had kilied the engine, but I
had only knocked it into neutral," Poteete
said.

com/No Toil/Renthal-sponsored 250cc SX out
in front of the field and pulled away. Poteete
made a mistake, and the result was a battle
for second between Brian Sanders and Clint
Carr. The two passed each other three or four
times in the first mile of the race. Carr was the
last one to make a pass, capturing second
place - where he would stay until the finish.
With an open track ahead of him, Weisenfels just hammered the gas and tried to get far
out in front of the rest of the class. At the end
of the first lap, Weisenfels had a minute-andIS-second lead over second-placed Carr.
"KTM has my 250cc SX prepped to the
max, and it really runs great," Weisenfels said.
Poteete turned in a good lap time on the
second lap of the race and was only 30 seconds down from Carr.
"I thought if I could get up with Clint, we
could ride together and turn in some good
laps, since we practice with each other a lot,"
said Poteete.
On the third lap, the Factory Effex/UNI/
Boyesen/Scotts/Xtrememc.com-backed Carr
stepped up the pace, turning in his fastest lap
of the day. Carr was now one minute and 30
seconds behind Weisenfels, with two laps left
in the race.

OZARK, AL, MAR. 30
After rain forced the cancellation of its first
round, Dixie MX hosted round six of the second annual Riders' Spring Shootout Series.
More than 100 riders from four states were on
hand and enjoyed excellent weather. Coffee
Springs, Alabama's Ben Waldner scored
another win In the 125cc C ciass. With the
series at the halfway mark, the VZ250F rider
has taken control of the points lead by finishing no lower than second.
In the rush to the lirst turn in the first
125cc C moto, Waldner came out ahead of
James Devilbiss, Josh Nynn and Jeremy
Thomas. Waldner built a commanding lead
and went on to finish ahead of Devilbiss, the
number-two rider in series points. Thomas
hounded Wynn and made a pass stick on the
front straight for third. Austin Pebworth placed
fifth.
Waldner led race two, followed by Josh
Adams and Pebworth. Adams tried to match
Waldner's pace on the red-clay track but
couldn't keep up with him. Pebworth moved
up to challenge Adams for second. Unable to
make the necessary pass, Pebworth (5-3) lost
out to Adams (6-2) on a tie breaker. Danny
Brown came in fourth, ahead of Suzuki jockey
David Brantley. With a DNF, Devilbiss fell further behind Waldner in the title chase.
In the first Pee Wee (7-9) moto, Jake Hall
came off the gate ahead of KTM riders Mason
Brown and Sheldon Seale. The race for the
win began to shape up when Seale passed
Brown in the back section and closed on Hall.
For the remainder of the race. Hall was able to
keep his Polini out front. Payton Phillips rode
to fourth, ahead of Cobra tamers Dakota
Smith and Gunnar Smith.
In-the second outing, Dakota picked up the
pace and raced wij:h Seale to see who would
be the best rider. Phillips held down third in
the early going. At the fiag, it was Seale, folĀ·
lowed by Dakota, Brown and Phillips. Hall
slipped to fifth and lost second overall to
Brown (3-3) on a tie breaker.
Panama City, Florida's Randy Cornelius
had Bill Russell on the rear fender of his KX in
the first 250cc D moto. Mark Wilson put his
KTM into the picture by taking second and
then closing in on a faltering Cornelius, Wilson
was able to make a pass, but Cornelius

Eli Bieschke put in an amazing ride, winning the A Open class and finishing sixth
overall on the day.
Byrd's Campground was a wonderful place
to race. The nice camping area and the creek
that runs through it were very enjoyable,
adding to the reasons that it was such a good
venue for a round of the Arkansas Hare

returned the favor in the next turn. Russell,
Don Bush and Mark Cavallaro rounded out the
top five, all aboard Varna has.
Russell picked up the second-moto win but
couldn't keep Comelius (1-2) from taking the
overall. Wilson (2-3) was a solid third overall,
ahead of Cavallaro (5-4) and Bush (4-6).
The 125cc D class was the largest of the
day, with 12 riders on the line. Series leader
Brandon Devilbiss pulled a slim holeshot over
the KX-mounted Rick Brantley and fellow VZ
rider Robert Gardner in mota one. The racing
was intense, as Gardner passed both riders for
the lead. Rick pressured Brandon into making
a mistake and moved by on the front straight.
By the time the checkers flew, both Rick and
Brandon had repassed Gardner. Blake Dunn
and Timmy Smith came in next. Alexander
Seale piaced sixth.
In race two, Dunn came out of the first
corner ahead of Rick, Brandon and Dixie
newcomer Corey Telfrin. Brandon made a
smart move in a sweeper and passed Dunn for
the victory. Dunn held on to second and
claimed the runner-up position for the day. A
hot-and-cold Rick Brantley (1-7) was third.
After placing eighth in the first moto, Teifrin's
third-place second-moto finish vaulted him to
fourth. Dalevilie, Aiabama, riders Austin Jones
and Ryan Hoider garnered fourth- and fifthplace finishes but didn't have the race-one
placings to back them up. Alexander came
through with another sixth and earned a trip to
the trophy window with fifth overall.
When the gate dropped for the first 250cc
D moto, Dwayne Marks put his Kawasaki out
front, with Jeremy Richard in pursuit. Marks
went on to score the win, while Richard had to
hold off a challenge from Carl Drummond.
Colorado Springs, Colorado, rider Manuel KInsey was fourth.
Marks beat back pressure from Drummond
in race two for a double-mota sweep. Drummond picked up second in the overall tally.
Richard was a DNF, moving Kinsey up to
third.
