Argyll Cycle Park: Brent Maggi put himself on the fast track to the Novice class by winning the overall in the overcrowded 125cc Beginner class at round four of the Mutant Motorsports/Concord Motorsports Spring Series in Dixon, California_ Elk City Motocross Park: Aaron Stone topped the aGcc Beginners at round four of the Oklahoma State Championship Series in Elk City. Mutant Motorsports/Concord Motorsports Spring Series Round 4: Argyll Cycle Park Oklahoma State Championship Series Round 4: Elk City Motocross Park Stone Solid lowed by Honda rider Brenda Alexander, Blewett and Kawasaki rider Mayssie McDonald. Blewett again got out in front in mota two, but this time she made no mistakes and finished in first, with Clark close behind. At a distance, Snow, Alexander and Kawasaki jockey Kendall Bissell finished out the top five. Clark took the overall, and Blewett had to settle for second. Round five will be held at Motorcycle Raceway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 26 and 27. By CONNIE JOHNSON ELK CITY, OK, MAR. 30 Elk City Motocross Park hosted round four of the Oklahoma State Championship Series on March 30. One of the best races of the day came from the 80ce Beginner riders. Aaron Stone launched his Suzuki to the top of the podium after a duel with Kawasaki rider Joshua Weatherly. Weatherly got the lead early in moto one and used every trick in the book to stay in front of Stone, managing to take the first-moto win with Stone a close second. Third, fourth and fifth place went to Yamaha rider Craig Caivert, Suzuki jockey Ty Easterling and Yamaha·mounted Royce Garrison after four laps of close racing. Weatherly got out in front again in mota two but had Stone in his back pocket. Stone made the pass on lap three and left Weatherly fighting to hang on to second while Garrison put on the pressure. Weatherly crossed the finish line half a wheel in front of Garrison. Easterling held off Calvert to take fourth by one bikelength. In the 65cc (9-11) class, it was all Justin Bogle on his KX - until a mishap took him out on lap three of moto one. Gage Martin capitalized on Bogle's misfortune and put his KX in first place after a fourth-place start. Another Kawasaki pilot, Casteil Clark, moved up to fin· ish second. Tanner Voung passed William Nagy for third, both of them also on Kawasakis. J.D. Richards rounded out the top five on his KTM. Nagy got the jump in mota two but was passed on lap two by Bogle, who managed to keep his bike on two wheels and in front of everyone else until the checkers flew. Martin was the next to pass Nagy, stealing second on the last lap. Clark finished fourth, and Young came in fifth. Colt Nichols dominated the 50cc (7-8) class, getting the lead early on his KTM and never looking back. He finished both motos with a commanding lead. Second and third place also went KTM riders - John Berry and Jordan Nassaney - while Polini pilots A.J. Gearhart and c.J. Collins claimed fourth and fifth, respectively. The only change in the finishing order for mota two was that Collins got around Gearhart to take fourth. Chris Blewett and Missy Clark had their own race going on within the Women's class, as they were half a track ahead of everyone else. Mota one saw Blewett in the lead on her Suzuki for all four laps, but she jumped a double on a yellow flag and was docked a lap, giving Kawasaki jockey Clark the win. Chelsea Snow came in second on a Kawasaki, fol- 70 MAY 7. 2003' eye I e Elk City Motocross Park Elk City. Oklahoma Results: March 30, 2003 (Round 4) 50 (4-6): l. Alexander Nagy (Lem): 2. At the last two rounds, racers were slipping and sliding around every lap. This weekend there was traction. and riders were able to make the jumps every lap. Brent Maggi from Santa Clara, California, and Discovery Bay's Steven Hernandez found the track to their liking, taking wins in their respective classes. Maggi was contesting the 125cc Beginner class. while Hernandez was going for the win in the 125cc Intermediate class. Due to the large number of 125cc Beginner entries, the class was split into two divisions. The top*placing riders from each division in the first mota were grouped together to battle it out for the overall in the second mota. The first moto of the first division was all about Clay Patterson from Gilroy. Patterson started up front and stayed there until the end. The Yamaha rider led every lap during the first mota. Second spot eventually went to Anthony Gonzales of Vallejo. Gonzales worked his Honda to the front after starting outside the top five. Third in this division went to Tadd Whitmore. also out of Gilroy and also riding a YZ. When the second division of 125cc Beginners went off for their first moto, Maggi ripped a killer start and left the pack dicing for second spot. Maggi rode smooth and won with a comfortable lead. Expect to see the Honda speedster competing in the Novice class very soon. Second went to Erich Laufenberg, who was riding a Berkley Honda/Vamaha·sponso red VZ. Yamaha rider Richard Marcotte rounded out the top three. All the fastest 125cc Beginners on this day lined up for the start of the second first·divi· sian mota. Maggi pulled another holeshot and just edged out Patterson. The duo set the pace and started to pull away from the pack. Running third at this point was Suzuki jockey Kyle Howard, who then held second for two laps before being passed by Gonzales. When the black*and-white checkers came out, Maggi was still leading Patterson, and he took the win. Patterson had to settle for second. Gonza~ les still had a firm grip on third. Maggi took the overall with a 1-1 taliy, while Patterson scored second with his 1·2 score. The final podium position went to Anthony Gonzales (2-3). Steven "Iceman" Hernandez walked away from the weekend with bragging rights to the 125cc Intermediate-class win. The Suzuki rider traded wins with Kris Triest to take the overall. The mota-one holeshot went to Mike Newnham, who left everyone scrapping for second. Newnham established himself as the rider to beat and was pulling away from the pack, with A.J. Perez and Triest running sec* and and third. Newnham was running strong up front until the halfway mark, when the Yamaha rider had a mishap and dropped back to fifth. Triest and Hernandez both got by Perez and were now running first and second, respectively. Triest held his own and took the win just ahead of Hernandez. The Yamaha· mounted Perez crossed the line in third, and Newnham placed fourth. The start of mota two saw a new leader: Angel Morales, who hails from San Leandro. Hernandez gave chase, with Triest hot on his tail. Morales appeared to be in control for the win, but he went down on the fourth lap and handed over the lead to Hernandez. All Hernandez had to do was keep Triest behind him and he was guaranteed the overall. Hernandez didn't lose his cool, and the "Iceman" crossed the line first to take the win and the overall. Triest finished second in the mota as well as second overall for the day. Newnham took third for the mota and for the day. Perez rode consistently in both motos and ended his day in fourth overall.
