included a long, fifth-gear straight and a drop into a rock-lined coulee to challenge the riders' skills, The sitting-on-the-bike, hands-onthe-helmets, dead-eogine-start format was put together an awesome array of rolling hills, tight woods, and winding gr8sstracks on a short 6-mile track. "I didn't put anything too gnarly out there, just a bunch of rolling hills," he explained. ·We want everyone to have fun and a good race." Greenlee has brought a new twist into the racing by using TMC Pro-Stats for scoring. Utilizing this scoring system, the riders do not need to stop each lap to be scored; it is all done by a GPS transponder, which is attached to the rider or the bike before each race. Chuck Woodford pulled out in front early in the race and stayed there, but it wasn't easy. Woodford was chased down by Duane and Daryll Conner, Doug Blackwell and J.T. Bennett like a pack of wolves. The Conner brothers both had bike problems and had to drop out late in the race, leaVing the dirty work to Bennett and Blackwell. At the end of the race, Woodford came out on top. Blackwell was a close second, and Bennett was just as close in third. Bennett is working hard this year to defend his AWRCS Championship title, and he will push his X-Treme Suzuki RMI25 to the limits to prove it. He said that he enjoys these races much more than the GNCCs, due to the challenging tracks, and that he can't wait to see where Greenlee takes them this year. With eight series events (With each rider's best six counting toward the championship), Greenlee promises a challenging, fun series. For more information regarding sponsors, track directions, results, pictures and more, check out the AWRCS Website at www.tmcproslats.com. used for all classes. A mild, warm breeze, sunshine. and temperatures in the 50s made for excellent racing and spectating conditions for each hour-long race. The Grand Prix has an entry fee of two cans of food per person, which are donated to the Great Falls Community Food Bank. The racers donated a total 761 pounds of food and S 1200 cash to the food bank, just from this race. The Grand Prix is the ice-breaker event for the motorcycling season and draws riders from all over Montana and Canada. The popular event is designed so that all types of riders can be competitive and have fun. The sight of friends and family racing each other for bragging rights is commonplace. The Veterans got the day started, with the 250cc Beginner class starting a minute behind them. Emery Woolsey took the Vet lead and cruised to the win, while Zach Raymon took the Beginner-class honors. The Women's class saw Kawasaki-mount- ed Canadians Crystal Pierson and Renee Turner in a race-long battle for the lead, with Pierson eventually taking the win. "I'm so glad the weather was nice," said Turner. "We are tired of snow, and this is so much fun." The Unclassified race saw another Tumer this one named Trevor - take the win, over yet another Canadjan rider, Lorin Gaudet. The traditional final race of the day is for the Expert class. The holeshot went to T.J. Durden, who was followed by Jason Garberg. Jon Dullum was at the rear of the pack after getting a multiple-kick start. Garberg put his CMY-sponsored 250cc Yamaha into the lead lIIbout three miles into the race as he outpowered Durden's 125 coming out of a tum. Durden dogged Garberg for several laps, and Rusty Juhnke settled into third place. Garberg pulled out an eight-second lead on Durden, only to hit a braking bump that tumed his ride into a classic "Flying W." Garberg saved it but saw his lead shrink to a couple of bikelengths. However. Durden was unable to keep the pace as Garberg turned up the wick and pulled away for the win. "I wanted to get out front, put it on cruise and ride my own race," said Garberg. "It's a great way to start the season: with a win." By JUSllN WHARTON Paradise Off·Road Park: Zsch Lundy scored three class wins at round seven of the GPG Series in Macon, Georgia. Lundy's Trinity of Paradise Wins By FAT BILLY R.sults Paradise Off·Road Park MACON, GA, APR. 13 A week of heavy rain was a challenge that was met by the track crew at Paradise Off-Road Park. More than 450 riders signed up for the seventh round of the GPG Series, and the racing was hot enough to reqUire the track to be watered in the afternoon and even some touch-ups by the tractor, but the track crew was up to it. One of the classes that displayed some hot and heavy competition was the 85cc (12-15) Senior Mini class. The top four places went to riders from out of slate; the top Georgia rider took the fifth spot. Yamaha rider Ricky Renner of Florida ended up Winning the overall, ahead of Kawasaki jockey James Ragsdale of Alabama. These two young men were the class of the fieid. Yamaha rider T.J. Tiffany from the Sunshine State was third. The front two spots were always hotly contested, but there was a right-hand tum that held Ragsdale back, as he made several low·speed slide-outs. Renner kept his wits about him when leading and came out on top of this super race! On his Honda of Houston machjnes, Zack Lundy was the winningest rider of the weekend. Lundy took the wins in the 250cc B, I 25cc Band 16-24 classes. In the first two of those classes, Lundy left the B-c1ass riders behind on the first lap and finished up among the A riders that had left on the first gates. It looks like a move to the A class is a natural for Lundy in the near future. Honda man Joshua McCarty hammered out second in the 250cc B class, ahead of Honda rider Rock Courson, making it an all-red podium. The I 25cc B division was a repeat of the 250cc B contest, with Lundy out front and gone. Kawasaki jockey Brent Carden was as consistent as Lundy, with two second-place finishes. J.J. Macky of Proline Motorsports came alive in the second moto to give Yamaha the last podium spot. The Over 25 competitors were also giving it their all. Honda rider DeWayne Bone won the last moto, beating Ashley Epps for the overall win; both riders put on a great show. Yamaha rider Kyle Kelly was waiting for a mistake that never came and put in two consistent third-place finishes. The Over 40 racers watched Yamaha jockey Ross Johnson blast away in both motos, so apparently his big get-off a couple of weeks Thunder Valley Raceway Woodford Thunders to AWRCS Opener Win By GRETCHEN ORTON EAST ROCHESTER, OH, APR. 6 Round one of the AWRCS (American Woods Racing Championship Series) kicked off on April 6 at Thunder Valley Raceway in East Rochester, Ohio. Promoter Chuck Greenlee cue • e .Johnson Masters the Mud ago hasn't slowed him up much. Honda rider William Phee was the second-place finisher with a couple of consistent finishes. Honda rider Kevin Brule finished third, making for another all-red podium. A great weekend of racing was had by all. Mr. Banks ran a smooth racing progrllm. as always. It's always good when there are no lIImbuJance rides. The racers are getting ready for the Loretta Lynn's qualifier at PlIIrlildise later this year. O/A: I. Chuck Woodford (Kaw); 2. PORll..AND, OR, APR. 10 The opening round of the PIR/Delta Park season wasn't the driest one in history. An unusual amount of mud ultimately provided an interesting night of racing. It was a day that would show who had the most endurance (and rain gear). In the combined 125cc Intermediate/ 125cc Pro/250cc Pro contest, Kiel Krogstadt absconded with the holeshot in the first moto. but he fell down in the process and felt the rest of the pack ride right over him. Taking over the lead was Moto Outfitters/MSR/Scott-sponsored 125cc Intermediate rider Joshua Johnson. who rode well until the end of the second lap, when he fell and had problems getting his bike restarted. His misfortune allowed 250cc Pro rider Sean "Sparky· Sparkman to slide by into the lead - until Sparkman had clutch problems half a lap later and pulled off. All this chaos allowed Joe Brockaway to get into the lead, where he would remain for the rest of the race. Finishing first in the Intermediate race was Pro Caliber/Demarini rider Scotty Bioom, who was followed by James Barret in second and Johnson in third. In the second moto, it was Bloom and Johnson battling it out. Johnson opened a small lead until he went down again. It looked like Bloom would cruise to an easy victory, until he mistook the white nag for the checkers and pulled off, allowing Johnson by for the win! Taking the win in the 250cc Pro class was Brockaway, and winning the 125cc Pro class was the quiet Suzuki rider, Joe McCraw. In the 125cc Intermediate class, Johnson (2-1) was followed by Bloom (1-2) in second and Barret (3-3) in third. Sparkman had mechanical problems with his bike and went home, and Krogstadt went to the hospital after his fall. In the 250cc Intermediate race, Randal Lewis nabbed the holeshot in the first moto, followed closely by Johnson and Jackson Nutt. Lewis and Johnson battled until the sec· ond lap, when Johnson blew by. Nutt eventually succumbed to the pressure of both of the Before The Hill riders, Beau Brown and Bloom, before the second lap was even finished. Brown put on a good show, slipping and sliding all over the track yet still holding off ultraquick Suzuki rider Bloom. When the checkers flew, it was Johnson with a com~ manding lead, followed by Lewis in second. Bloom finished third after making a lastminute pass on Brown. Nutt snared the holeshot in the second moto, but he was quickly displaced to second by the ultraquick Johnson. Behind Johnson, Nutt had to hold off hard-charging bulldog Bloom. Johnson picked up a healthy win, while Nutt and Bloom battled it out all the way to the checkers. with Nutt coming out on top for second. Claiming the 250cc Intermediate win was Johnson (I-I), with Lewis (2-DNS) in second. Bloom won the Before The Hill class, and Nutt won the 250cc Junior class. Results 60 (6-8): J.
