class; Nevada's Nathan Tiearney clobbered the competition on Friday, ahead of the Husqvarna-mounted Neese and Yamaha jockey Terlecki, while on Saturday it was Roseburg, Oregon's Huffman who took home the top money. Nick Metcalf, who finished this year's series as the number-three rider, placed second to Huffman, while the final spot on the podium went to Terlecki. Huffman, who this season had a phenomenai string of top-three performances, including two wins, in the National Arenacross Series. also showed that he's back to his ways of old. In addition to his 125cc main-event win on Saturday, the Yamaha rider also won the crowd-funded Dash For Cash on both nights to pad his pocketbook. AMA National veterans Hagseth and Billy Binckley did all they could to put the stops to Huffman but were left a bit short. at the finish in the winner-lake-all four-Iappers. Tiearney, riding the Maxxis/Scott/Axo/ Varner-backed Suzuki, posted what was most likely his biggest win of the year in the 125cc Pro class on Friday, turning the tables on the most successful rider of the series, North Car- olina's Neese, in order to pocket the top prize of $500. The Husqvarna/Serious Racewear/ Arai/Renthal-supported Neese - who had clinched the series title at the Wichita, Kansas, round while amassing the top points total of 1093 (ahead of Missouri's Brian Stone, at 938) - finished second. Terlecki trailed the duo for a third-place finish, while Hagseth, Team Green's Stone, Binckley, Jim Chester, Metcalf and Greg Crater filled out the top 10. Washougal Motocross Park/Scott/No Fear/Dunlop-backed Huffman did the deed on Saturday night but, not surprisingly, had American Suzuki's Metcalf to contend with. Metcalf, who this year carries the Regional number-four plate, posted his best finish of the weekend, trailing Huffman. The Lynnwood Motoplex/Maxxis/Sinisalo/M2R-sponsored Oregonian Terlecki, who was a consistent topthree performer all weekend long, garnered third, followed by Mike "Superman" Mason, Tiearney, Chester, Neese, Hagseth, Stone and New York's Aaron Dieter. Despite pressure from Huffman (on Friday) and Neese (on Saturday), Hagseth ruled the 250cc roost; despite dropping several digits in the National Arenacross Series this season (due to injuries), the Pro Circuit/Fox/ Gaerne/Wiseco-backed Hagseth was the cream of the crop in the two main events. Huffman, who finished 11th in the final National standings this year, finished on the podium on both nights, ahead of Terlecki, Stone and Mason on Friday and heading Mason and Chester into the top five the following night (while trailing both Hagseth and Neese). There were also several top Amateur performers on the weekend. Jake "The Snake" Locks has been a staple on the West Coast swing of the series for the past few years. On Friday night, the rider from Dixon, California, notched his name among the elite in the 65cc (7 - II) class with his win over fellow Golden State rider James Culbertson. The final spot on the rostrum went to Tacoma's Rook Jewell, who pilots a KTM. On Saturday, it was a different story, as Oregon's Gared Steinke was the dominant performer in the class, leading Jake Anstett and Locks at the finish. Local Suzuki rider Ronnie Peterson has shown fiashes of brilliance in the 250cc Intermediate class throughout the season in the Northwest, but after shredding the competition in a pair of Friday night wins, those flashes were quickly extinguished, as another top Evergreen State rider, Keith Ford, scored a Saturday night win in the 250cc class. Califomian Cory Redinius posted a pair of Saturday night wins, scoring the 125cc and 250cc Novice victories to continue a streak of wins from the earlier Portland, Oregon, round of the series. 250 INT: I Ronnie Peterson (Suz); 2. By JOHN Millsaps: Man of Steel By DICK GOODWIN U\S VEGAS, NV, MAR. 30 That big "S" on Davi Millsaps' chest probably stands for Suzuki; hey, he rides one and is on the Suzuki team. On the other hand, since he was racing on Super Sunday Two at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, maybe it stood for Superman. It certainly could have stood for success, because Millsaps had plenty of that on March 30, winning the 125cc Schoolboy, 125cc Intermediate and Open Big-Bike classes with ease. He didn't look rusty or slow after a long layoff due to knee surgery; instead, he trounced the various fields at will. In fact, the only rider able to give him trouble at all was his traveling companion and good buddy Bryan Johnson, who races in the Pro divisions. When the combined 125cc Pro/l25cc Intermediate gate unloaded, Johnson absconded with the holeshot, with Millsaps and Intermediate Jason Jeffrey right behind him. Millsaps lined up Johnson and zapped him in the canyon drop-off. Meanwhile, Intermediate rider Carlos Gonzalez forced his way up into third. Pro Kevin Roberts and Intermediate Michael Parker were in a tight scrap over fourth. Millsaps opened a slim lead, but Johnson wouldn't go away, and the two leaders opened it up on the rest of the field. Johnson made a last-lap push that aimost succeeded, flashing through the pipes in tandem with Millsaps and just losing out in a photo finish. Roberts beat Gonzalez for third, with Parker in fifth. It was Millsaps' turn for the holeshot, and he led Johnson and Gonzalez as the second half began. Millsaps and Johnson cranked it up, while Roberts made the pass on Gonzalez for third. Roberts suffered a high-speed crash in the canyon area, leaving Jeffrey, Jeff Bell and Gonzalez tightly bunched and fighting for third. Once again, Millsaps and Johnson went at it all race long, with Millsaps the narrow victor and overall 125cc Intermediate winner. Johnson topped the 125cc Pro class. Gonzalez's two· race total would land him in the runner-up spot overall in the 125cc Intermediate class, edging Jeffrey, Chad Charbonneau and Levi Jensen in the final results. Roberts and Nate Larson followed Johnson in the final I 25cc Pro tally. 85 8EQ: I. Justin Garda (Suz): 2. Luigi Calantonl (Suz): 3. Steven Hackett (Vam); 4. Derek M..
