Mota Park Motocross in Kingman, Arizona,
held a wet and rainy set of races on March 16.
The soggy conditions didn't bother the old
guys, who banged and slammed at each other
for two intense rounds.
When action began for race one of the
Masters Over 40 class, Jeff Ortberg shot out in
front of Bob Fisk, Don Lindsey and the rest of
the pack. Fisk muscled his way into the lead,
and then Lindsey was hammering on Ortberg
for second. Chris Want was holding off Mike
Figley and Steve Wolsey in a scrap for fourth.
Fisk opened it up, while Lindsey battled
through for second. Fisk won the first half
handily, and Lindsey sailed through in second,
while Ortberg led Figley and the rest through
the checkers to end the first half.
The second mota opened up with another
Ortberg holeshot. Fisk and Lindsey were right
behind him. When Fisk tried to drown himself
in the big mud puddle at the doubles, it gave
Lindsey the chance to fight with Ortberg for
the lead. And fight they did - eibow to elbow
and bar to bar for the rest of the race. A photo
finish saw Ortberg just edge Lindsey for the
win. And that small margin was just enough to
sew up the overall Masters Over 40 title. lindsey had to settle for second in the moto and
