Mutant Motorsports Spring Series Round 1: Hollister Hills GP Track Truglio, Betancur Top Hollister By RANDY HElM HOLUSTER,CA,MAR.9 Hollister Hills was the venue for the opening round of the Mutant Motorsports/Concord Motorsports Spring Series. The weather was perfect. so many on hand were displaying their white legs for the first time this year. The Mutant crew did an awesome job of getting the track ready, and track conditions were excellent all weekend long for the more than 450 riders in attendance. Santiago Betancur, representing San Jose. came away with a win in the 80cc Novice class and a respectable third in the 80cc (12-16) class. In the first 80cc Novice mota, Betancur grabbed the holeshot on his Yamaha and led the way around the historic track. Behind Betancur were Honda rider James Velasco and Yamaha rider Derek White, who were battling it out for the second spot. The battle ended at the halfway point when White made the pass on Velasco and secured second place. At the finish, Betancur crossed the line first, with White taking second and Velasco still in third. Fourth went to Shaun Murphy. Moto two had everyone swapping posi· tions, with the exception of Betancur. At the start, Wilton's Ricky Akers pulled the holeshot on his Honda. Colton Walker was running sec· and, and Betancur was third. The man on the move was Yamaha rider Shaun Murphy, also out of San Jose. Murphy gated near the back but was working his way through traffic. By the second lap, Murphy had already worked his way into third. At the halfway point, the running order was Akers, Betancur, Murphy and Brandon Reyna. The Akers Concrete Cutting·sponsored Akers was charging hard up front, but he slipped up on the last lap, allowing Betaneur and Murphy to get by. Akers finished a close third, followed by Reyna in fourth. Betancur scored the overall via his 1·1 scores, whjle Murphy was second with a 4-2 tally. Third overall went to the Kawasakimounted Walker, with consistent 5-5 finishes_ In Pro and Intermediate racing, Craig Truglio and Gino Scolari Jr. took the wins.
