grabbed third. In the second moto, Wolf got the start aboard his Yamaha and led for three laps before Truglio was able to make a pass stick. Once out front, Truglio got a little breathing room and rode his Yamaha to victory. Wolf again finished second, with Jones taking third. In the Intermediate ranks, Scolari scored double-moto wins on his YZF250 for the overall, followed by Berkley Yamaha/Honda rider Kris Triest, who went 2-2 for second overall. Third overall went to Paso Robles' George Schreider (4-3.), who was also riding blue. When the riders switched over to 250s, the podium saw some new faces, though the winners remained the same. Truglio took double-moto wins in the Pro class. Ronnie Raymond of Santa Cruz was second on the day with consistent 3-3 finishes. Third went to Wolf, who didn't have a great first moto; he went 5-2, making it a Yamaha sweep of the top three. In the 250cc Intermediate class, Scolari split wins with Honda rider Nick Markert. Scoiari got the nod with 1-2 finishes. Markert was second overall with 4-1 scores, and third on the day went to FBN Racing's Scotty Alves, who finished 2-3 aboard the big Honda. This week's Big-Bike Dash For Cash event was a nail-biter. With Truglio breathing down his neck, Wolf made a last-lap pass on Novice Yamaha rider Ron de Jesus to take the lead. STC Highlands Kawasaki/Pro Circuit Winter Series Round 7: San Jacinto Cycle Parte Bailey Thumps 'em at San Jac By BRIAN COMEAU SLENDORA,TX,MAR.2 Round seven of the STC Highlands Kawasaki/Pro Circuit Winter Series made its second stop at San Jacinto Cycle Park, based on the votes of the riders from the first three rounds of the series. Some 350 entrants came out to help bring an end to the 2003-04 Winter Series. With only one make-up rain date left to run, this round meant important points that could affect series standings. This is certainly true in the case of Ryan Bailey, who entered the series at the second round and has been trying to make up ground on points leader Tyler Schultz ever since. Bailey has been all but untouchable, though, taking several overall wins. San Jacinto was no exception: He took two perfect motos for the overall. Bailey also picked up second overall in the 250cc Intermediate class. Bailey took the holeshot ahead of Tony Traxler In the first moto of the Four-Stroke Open class. Baiiey and Traxler pulled out a small gap over B.J. GUidry, who was holding off Ryan Breaux and Schultz for third. Bailey began to get some breathing room on the second lap, as he was able to put a few seconds between himself and Traxler. Bailey continued to pull away, leading Traxler by about eight seconds at the finish. Guidry took third, ahead of Schultz and Breaux. Bailey picked up another holeshot in the second moto, with Traxler trailing him. Breaux got a better start in the second moto, passing Javier Coso early for third piace, whiie Schultz and Guidry battled behind him. Bailey once 82 APRIL 9, 2003' cue I e again put a gap on the rest of the field in short order, pulling away from Traxler. Breaux was able to hang on to the third spot, and his 5-3 rides were good enough for third overall. Schultz took fourth after battling with Guidry for most of the race; Schultz's 4-4 score earned him fourth overall, ahead of Guidry and Heath Brown. Todd Downs jumped out to the early lead in the first moto of the 125cc Expert class, ahead of Vemon McKiddie and Bradley Mikolas. These three quickly pulled away from fourth-placed Cody Marek and fifth-placed Ryan Edixon. McKiddie was looking for a way around Downs but couldn't find an opening. Downs seemed to have the first half of the track wired, while McKiddie had the second one down pat. When McKiddie finally did match Downs on the first half of the track, he then used an inside line in the second half to make the pass for the lead. From there on, it was all McKiddie, as he picked up the moto win ahead of Downs. Mikolas finished a step back in third. Mikolas took the holeshot in the second moto, ahead of McKiddie and Traxier. Downs quickly charged up into third, passing Traxler and setting out after the leaders. If they finished in that order, McKiddie would take the overall with a 1-2 tally to Mikolas' 3-1 score. With Mikolas maintaining his lead up front, it looked like this would be the case - until the third lap, when McKiddie made a mistake and dropped a position to Downs. McKiddie put in a strong ride and tried to catch up, but Mikolas had it. Downs hung on to second, with McKiddie finishing third. Oak Point, Texas' Mark Rakestraw has been the man to beat in the Over 40 class. After finishing 1-1 at the last two rounds, Rakestraw came to San Jacinto looking for another set of mota wins_ He got just that, besting Bruce Frey in both motos for the overall. Tye Benton finished 3-4 to take third overall, while Javier Coso took fourth with a 5-3 tally. Rounding out the top five with a 4-6 score was Ron Sussman of Pasadena, Texas. Dave Coupe Classic EStreet Track Johnson Tough in the Rough By JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS MARYSVILLE, CA, MAR. 9 Benefiting from his years of experience on the Pro National scene, Casey Johnson tamed the rough, sandy terrain of the E Street Track in Marysville en route to victories in the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes at the Dave Coupe Classic. Hailing from Southern California's Lake Elsinore, Johnson made the trek north and joined the nearly 500 riders who came out to the popular event put on by former factory Maico rider-turned-part-time race promoter and all-around good-guy, Dave Coupe. Although Johnson won by fairly comfortable margins in all four matos, two of his motos didn't exactly start off well. In fact, after a holeshot and a dominant win in the first 125cc Pro moto, Johnson lined up for moto two and promptly stalled his Yamaha thumper at the drop of the gate. Brian Roth, Matt McCrummen, Jarid Blevins and company all took advantage of that mistake, and Johnson rounded tum one in dead last. However, as expected, Johnson gobbled up ground in a hurry. and by lap four he found himself in the lead. which he then held to the end. Suzukimounted McCrummen snagged the second spot, and. coupled with a third in the first moto, he took second overall on the day. Roth (2-3), Bievins (4-4) and Eric Williams (6-5) rounded out the top five.
