Pax Trax MX Park Baily Bags Two By CRAIG AND ANGElA JOHNSON BUNNELL, FL, FEB. 23 Andy Baily took his Tri·City Honda to victories in the 250cc Intermediate and Over 30 classes at round four of the fifth annual Parts Unlimited/Dealer Support Series. Baily never did win a moto in either class, but he was still good enough to be number one for the day. In the first combined 250cc Advanced and Intermediate moto, Lee Fleischmann grabbed the lead. The freight train behind him was comprised of Kris Clark, Tom Henderson, Cycle Sports Center's Paul Hogrefe, and Bally. Fleischmann and Clark started to check out after lap one, while the rest jockeyed for posj~ tion. Hogrefe and Ricky Gunter moved to third and fourth, respectively, while Baily kept fifth. Henderson made some mistakes on the first lap and dropped to sixth. Clark put the pressure on Fleischmann and passed him after the halfway nag for the lead. The battle was now for fourth, while Hogrefe rode alone in third. Gunter seemed to be riding a little out of con~ trol, and he fell. Baily moved up to fourth, and Henderson was fifth as the moto came to an end. Henderson jumped into the lead in the sec~ ond moto. Clark held second but just let Henderson lead for a little more than a lap. Then Clark moved into the lead and pulled away from the Intermediate riders. Baily held third until Gunter charged past for that spot. Gunter did not let the fall from the first moto affect him; he caught and past Henderson. Then Henderson was feeling the heat from Baily and lost the third spot at the back S turn. Hogrefe also passed Henderson shortly thereafter. Gunter won the Intermediate class, followed by Baily, Hogrefe and Henderson. Fleisch~mann finally got fifth after a very bad start. The 125cc Intermediate class ran a com~ bined moto with the Over 30 class. The older riders moved out front at the drop of the gate in moto one. Baily led, and Alpha Motorsports/IC Welding's Craig Johnson was right on his tail. The two pulled away from the rest of the pack, and Johnson was looking for an opening. The Yamaha rider finally found it and won the moto, over Baily. Beach Sport Yamaha's Brett Koufas wound up third in the Over 30 class. Mike Baily won the 125cc class, over Kyle Clark and Daniel Walker. Moto two started out with a little bumping and grinding. Johnson shot out of the gate but let Andy put a wheel in the inside. The two touched once, and both let off and then bumped again. This let Ken Blackwell and Mike by and into first and second. Andy and Johnson regrouped and caught the 125cc rider, Mike. By the time they got into second and third, Blackwell had pulled away, and there was no catching him. Blackwell won, over Andy and Johnson. Mike won the 125cc Intermediate portion, and Walker came in second, ahead of David Purvis and Clark. Results P/W SHAFT (4-6): 1. Rabbi Merrell (Yam): 2. Nick Wirth (Yam): 3.
