.an ...... .... -- ~-- SOMETIMES WHAT PROTECTS YOU THE MOST IS MADE OF PAPER. The Resch Center: Jim Neese won two main events at the Green Bay Regional Arenacross in Wisconsin. He is now clearly in charge of the points standings with five rounds remaining. from Stone and third from Barnes. Oettel was his next victim, and all that was left was Kalin. Kalin never knew Neese was that close until the final lap, when Neese pulled within one bikelength of him through the whoops. Katin rode flawlessly through the rhythm section but took an outside Ijne over the catapult jump. leaving a lane open for Neese to jump in, and when Neese came down from the rafters, he had a clean inside line to take away the lead while the checkers flew down the front stretch. Neese did tangle with Katin in the final corner, forcing Katin to restart his machine; he eventually finished fourth. Katin took the tough win, Oettel held on to a solid second, and Stone sneaked into the third and final podium position. "I worked my ass off trying to get the lead, and when I got close enough, the door was open, to Neese said. "It was pretty close for a pass, but that's arenacross, and I know Mike would've done the same thing. We've been friends for a long time, and I don't think it'll hurt anything. It's too bad that he stalled it, because he should be up here [on the podium] with me tonight." On Saturday, Dieter got the 125cc mainevent holeshot, with Burkhart and Chester in tow. Dieter was nursing a sore foot from an injury sustained earlier in the program. Burkhart charged past Dieter after the whoop section, but Dieter got him back before the catapult jump. Burkhart then took the lead a lap laler, but Chester gained some ground on the leaders and made a move shortly after for the lead. Burkhart charged back. but a downed rider in the whoops made Burkhart check up, and when he did, a lapped rider plowed into his Yamaha four-stroke. Burkhart hit the ground and was unable to continue due to a shoulder injury. Chester took over the reins, while Neese settled for second. Stone, Dieter and Brad Modjewski rounded out the top five. "I rode real smooth tonight." Chester said. "I got a good start and picked them off one by one, and I'm glad to be up here." Barnes took the holeshot in the 250cc main event, with Neese, Dieter and Katin in tow. The Kawasaki-mounted Barnes was rocking throughout the main event - until he went down after the whoop section, stalling the bike and handing the lead over to Neese with one lap remaining. It was a heart-breaking loss for Barnes and a huge win for Neese, as he picked up his second main-event win on the weekend. "I think he stalled it in that corner, and I don't think I would've caught him if he didn't stali it - he was on his game tonight," Neese said of Barnes.
