He was first into tum one in both the short track and IT classes in the 200cc Pro-Am ranks. Hayden Gillim and Tyler Whitecotten filed in behind early in the TT, but Hanna never bobbled on his way to the Hag. Hayden and Frankie Lee Gillim gave chase in the short track to fill out the podium. After taking the Open Pro-Am IT class, Hanna pulled to the line. needing another perfect start in the Open Pro-Am short track. It didn't happen; Aaron Ladd nailed the start. Billy Gruwell kept it close in second for a couple of laps before Ladd pulled away to a convincing win. Coy Matthews moved into third, ahead of Steve Jackson. Hanna followed in fifth. Matthews got a perfect launch at the start of the Open Pro main and led the pack into tum one. After hitting the tire lining the inside comer and going airborne, Rod Hartzel miraculously found himself in second place. Starting from the back on the restart, Ethan charged to the front to take the win while Luke Baird held off McFadden for second. Lewis then took the IT win with a Iight-to-Hag run. Dennis Porter won both the heat and the main in the Super Senior Over 50 class. He was also a threat in the Ughtweight Vintage contest but couldn't find a way around John Lewis, who took the class win. Barry Benkert took a narrow win over the Mad Dog IT riders. Mike Ladd led early in the Mad Dog short track until Steve Thomas slipped underneath to take the point. Mike settled down and found an outside line that carried him to the checkers first, over Thomas and Kelly Bell. Regional Arenacross Series The Resch Center found himself on Matthews' rear wheel with two laps to go. Matthews got a little high, and Hartzel pounced to make the pass and take the win. Matthews shut the door back down to nip Ladd and Jackson at the line. Hartzel came back later to run away with wins in the Vet Over 30 and Senior Over 40 divisions. Patrick Pyle and Hayden swapped wins in the 200cc Amateur class; Pyle took the short track, and Hayden won the IT. Both races were decided by inches. Frankie Lee Gillim got the holeshot in the 85cc short track final but couldn't hold off Hayden and had to settle for second. Whitecotten, Jeffrey Carver and Jake Lewis followed. Carver's luck would be better in the n, as he took advantage of a late-race fall by both Gillims to card the win. The Gillim boys kept it on two wheels to sweep the 65cc mains; Frankie Lee took the short track, and Hayden won the IT. Ethan Gillim pulled away from the 50cc Shaft IT class to take the win. Nick McFadden took control of the short track, while Ethan tried to find an outside line that worked. At the halfway mark, the riders tangled, and both n Muhlenberg Convention Center: Justin Hanna (by the wall), Coy Matthews (20), Billy Gruwell (59), Aaron Ladd (45) and Steve Jackson (13N) launch off the line on the Open Pro-Am start at round five of the Kentucky State Indoor Dirt Track Series in Greenville_ _ s Neese Increases His Lead BY PETE EMME GREEN BAY, WI, FEB. 14-15 On Friday, Suzuki rider Nick Metcalf launched off the staring gate ahead of 14 other eager participants, all in search of the hard-to-get holeshot in the 125cc main event. Fighting behind Metcalf were Ohioan Mark Burkhart and New Yorker Aaron Dieter. Metcalf had held the lead for a lap when points leader Jim Neese made a move on Dieter and Burkhart in the whoop section, assuming second place, behind Metcalf. At the halfway point, it was Metcalf, Neese, Burkhart, Dieter, Mike Katin and Brian Stone. Matt Barnes was working through the pack but pulled off the track with some problems. Neese caught up to Metcalf but made a crucial mistake with little time remaining, sliding out after coming down off the catapult jump. Metcalf took the win, Neese settled for second, and Dieter rounded out the top three. "I got the holeshot, and' had a pretty decent line through the whoops," said Metcalf. "They were pretty big tonight. I was riding smooth, and I knew Burkhart was right behind me early on, and then Neese ctlme up on me, and 1 saw him with my peripheral vision there, and then he slid out and fell down." "It was a little hairy with the lappers in the middle of the race, but I put a real hard push on Metcalf towards the end," Neese said after his tough outing, "but I fell after the catapult, and Nick got the win." Katln got the narrow holeshot in the 250cc main event, ahead of David Oettel. The Suzuki jockey was running with a perfect stride early on, while Gettel had some trouble in the whoops, losing some time on the leader. Katin had moved out to a five-second lead by halfway, but it was the hard-charging Jim Neese who had everyone on their feet. Neese caught up to defending champion Jim Chester and passed him, and then took over fourth
