orr MSTR B: I. Tom Burgess (KTM); 2. Ken Greene (Han); 3. In the Over 301 cc A class, a tight points race would be determined by this day's finishing order. Teague Sawyer, Steve Brown and Daniel Pennington entered the final round separated by only two points. With wins in the previous two events, Sawyer seemed to have the momentum coming into the event, and he didn't disappoint. Sprinting out to the front early, Sawyer locked up the win and the class title. Kawasaki-mounted Jeff Grace, in his flfst Open-class appearance, made a strong showing with a second-place finish. just ahead of KTM rider Mike Friberg. Brown and Penningtoo finished fourth and ninth, respectively, but still managed to maintain the second and third positions in the points race. Erratic finishes throughout the Senior B class kept that title up for grabs coming into the final round, but Darryl Lujan was a man with a plan. Getting up front early on. Lujan motored away with the win and the championship, maintaining a nice cushion over the Suzuki of second-place finisher John Pease. Adam Vlasicak put the moves on Bethanne Peters early on to win the Mini A class, but it wasn't enough to win the class title, which went to the day's third-place finisher, Aaron Tryzna. Thomas flint WOODLAND PARK, CO, FEB. 9 Racing conditions couldn't have been better for the season finale at Rainbow Falls Park. The Harry's Roamers Motorcycle Club-promoted event was blessed with traditional Colorado temperatures for this time of year in the week leading up to the event. This allowed the lake to solidify, avoiding the mushy conditions prevalent at the previous event. With many class titles on the line, racers were relieved to see the track in such great condition. The Speedway class offered up some of the day's best racing, with an exciting, crashfilled final event. Bob Richards blasted off the start to his usual position at the front of the pack, but his lead was short-lived, as his own aggressive riding tactics got the best of him, and he went down exiting tum four after only the first lap - and his shot at the class championship went down with him. After missing round one, a perfect streak of wins had kept him in the championship chase, until now. After a lap of bumping and jockeying for position, Derrick Rohr looked to be the new leader, but it was not to be: Rohr went down in the same place as Richards on the very next lap. With two of five laps completed, the pack was still tightly bunched, and the iead was still up for grabs. Seeing his opportunity, Con Harris got on It hard and moved himself from fourth to first in one fell swoop. Harris held on to take the win, with Thom Young and Mike Rohr rounding out the podium. However, consistency won out, as Cam Brooks, finishing a season-low fifth on this day, won the class title by virtue of never having placed worse than second throughout the series. Eleven Pros lined up on the 250cc gate for a shot at what seemed like easy money: one moto, 11 laps, $1000 purse - anyone who makes the podium gets paid! Chris Wheeler, on his Tag Metals/ECC Suzuki, went screaming wide into turn one, with Tim Beatty's Motopro/Acerbis/Applied Racing/Pro Circuit Honda 450F thundering inside. In the first tight lBO-degree tum, Beatty pushed hard inside, forcing Wheeler out. Packed tightly in tow were Honda riders Todd Mitchell and Billy Amone, followed by Quincy Powersports KTM rider Craig Smith and Motoworld of EI Cajon Yamaha rider Dustin Nelson. Wheeler pressured Beatty over the infield double and through the long whoop section, while Mitcheli passed Amone for third. Tum four put Wheeler out front and Beatty in second, with Mitchell closing. Amone was holding off Smith when Smith cartwheeled. nearly taking out the rest of the pack. Nelson moved into fifth, now shadowed by Josh Tarantino, aboard the Motosport Wearhouse/Chapstick Kawasaki. In tum five, Nelson went high around Amone while Tarantino went inside to pass them both. At the end of lap one, Wheeler was out front, Mitchell was pressuring Beatty for second. and Tarantino was holding off Nelson. Going into the whoops, Nelson got back around Tarantino, and then they both tiptoed through the battle between Beatty and Mitchell. Wheeler was in hyperdrive, adding two seconds per lap to his lead. Nelson and Tarantino established themselves in second and third, respectively. By halfway, Wheeler held a 15-second lead, Nelson had seven seconds on Tarantino, and Beatty and Mitchell were still inseparable. In the remaining laps, Wheeler was headed for an obvious win, Tarantino started a charge on Nelson to dose to within four seconds, and Beatty still wasn't giving Mitchell any opportunities. Wheeler, Nelson and Tarantino took the podium; Beatty and Mitchell rounded out the top five. Nelson tumed the tables on Wheeler in the 125cc Pro contest. ECC/ Acerbis/ Arnette/ FMF/Maxima Suzuki jockey Corey Macomber rounded out the podium in that race. Colt Hubbs pulled off four perfect motos in the 65cc (B-11) and the 65cc Super Junior classes. Danny Hart did the same in the 125cc and 250cc Novice classes. David Meyers pulled off a five-moto sweep for wins in the 125cc Intermediate and 125cc (16-24) Collegeboy classes, leaving the 250cc Intermediate honors to Greg Luna.
