Stamey cruised to another moto win in the Over 40 Intermediate portion for the class overall. FEB. 1 Fifty competitors enjoyed sunny skies and unseasonably warm temperatures as AHRMA's 2003 Speed £, Sport National Trials Series got under way during the big "Duel in the Desert" Vintage race weekend at Speed~ world Motorplex in Wittmann. Arizona. Trials masters Jared Bates and Pat Paddock created a very challenging, spectator-friendly, ninesection loop adjacent to the motocross track. which the riders were to negotiate three times in the allotted three-hour time period. The sections were scattered throughout a large sand wash, with steep drops and climbs that meandered through rocks and brush. Due to the area's dry conditions and loose, sandy terrain, the Duel in the Desert trials event takes more points than most others in the series, and this day was no exception. Although a bit intimidating at first glance. in several sections the best traction was to be found on large rocks that were imbedded into a hillside or packed into a gully. In all, it was a fair measure of ability, as there were no "zero" scores and just three DNFs.
