used smart racing techniques to whip up on
the 16-24 class and win the 250cc Brace
as well. FollOWing him home in both contests
was Glouster's Cody Kovach, mounted on a
Yamaha.
Buckeye Powersports-sponsored Dickie
Hoy made it another three-moto sweep, as he
took both the 125cc A and 250cc A classes as
well as, once again, the Over 25 class.
The Over 30 class belonged to Ohio Moto
Sports·backed Tim Fink, on his KX250, while
Dale "Ringmaster" Ringwald beat up on the

red flag - this time for Adam Carpinello and

it took some time resetting the second single-file restart. and some riders were showing
some impatience with the delay. As the starter
gave the signal to go, it seemed Durkee
caused a false start. The riders and fans alike
were calling for his removal to the back of the
pack, but no call was made, so he stayed
where he was. The race was restarted for the
third time, with Durkee showing the way and
Mullen and Winsett right behind him. Mees, in
the meantime, found his bike was misfiring
and he faded back to fourth. The running
order stayed the same to the finish.
In Victory Lane, Mullen claimed he should

a five-time winner of this event.
With the Dagostino Cup over, there was
still a whole District 3 program to run. There
were 13 classes, with more than 125 entries,
making for a busy day of racing. Other large
classes of the day included the Sportsman,
Senior B, 80cc, and both Vintage classes, with
up to 18 riders competing in each to make the
12-rider finals. Lowell Carson won the Sportsman contest. with Mike Alexander on his rear
wheel, waiting for a slip that never happened.
Barney Waldron continued his dominance of
the Vintage Heavy class on his Yamaha.

LOGAN, OH, SEPT. 11
As the nation remembered the anniversary of
a tragic day in its history, the Hocking County
Fairgrounds paid its patriotic respects and
went about the business at hand, as
motocross racing kicked off at thjs county-fair
locale in downtown Logan, site of round 23 of
the Ohio County Fairs Motocross Championship Series. Hamilton, Ohio's Andy Shea, a

COSTA MESA, CA, SEPT. 14
"Flyin'" Mike Faria made the trip from Reno
and gave the fans a thrill as he won the
Scratch main event at Costa Mesa on Saturday night. Bryan Yarrow, who also makes the
journey from up north, came away with the
win on the Handicap side of the program.
Faria and Josh Larsen made the direct
transfer to the Scratch main out of the first
semi, and they were joined by Scott Brant and
Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz from the second
semi. One more spot had to be filled, and that
would be determined in the last-chance qualifier. Chris "The Kid" Manchester drew the
pole, with the two slot going to "Gorgeous"
Gary Hicks. On the outside were Andy "The
Enforcer" Northrup and Shawn "Mad Dog"
McConnell. It was gate, race and transfer for
Manchester, and he would be the final man in
the Scratch main.
The draw for gate took place on the starting line and the pole went to Faria. Right next
to him was Larsen, with Brant in three. On the
outside were Schwartz and Manchester. The
gate went to Larsen, but Faria was out in the
dirt and was living up to his nickname. as he
