CA, AUG. 17 Clawson Motorsports/Shift/Arnette/Pro Circuit/IRS-backed Jeff Pestana displayed yet another example of what determination, combined with a little common sense. can do, as he took his third Top Gun Shootout win of the series at round eight of the AMP Top Gun Summer·X Series, presented by Alpinestars, Swift Auto World and Merced Powersports. The wily veteran started in the very last spot of the single-row line-up and, in usual Pestana fashion, meticulously made his way through the field. However, once near the front, Pestana quickly realized he had a lot of work still ahead of him, as Vincent Blair, who started about midpack, had opened up a sizable lead at about halfway. Kenny Heess, who was holding down second, was also on a fast pace and had his own sizable lead on Pestana. But Pestana never let off and gave chase, eventually getting by Heess on lap nine of the 15-lap event. Although Blair, piloting his Carmichael Honda/Axo/DC Shoes CRF, continued to click off flawless laps, Pestana gained time in the whoop section and by lap 12 he had pulled up onto Blair's rear fender. Sensing the pressure, Blair began going into defensive mode, putting block moves on Pestana in nearly every comer, but Pestana took his time and made his move in the whoops to take over the lead on lap 13. Unexpectedly, Blair quickly repassed Pestana in the following tum, much to the delight of the huge crowd. While it looked like Blair was going to make it a race all the way to the finish, Pestana regained the lead and began pulling away, eventually taking a five-second win over Blair.
