Hollister Hills GP Track McCrummen Cruises to Victory By RANDY HElM HOLUSTER, CA, AUG. 18 Thirty minutes were long enough for Eric McCrummen to take victories in both the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes at the Mutant Motorsports Grand Prix Race in Hollister, California. The Suzuki rider from Oakley, California, pounded out close to 50 laps en route to his double victory. McCrummen was on the track early, as the 125cc Intermediate/Pro race was up first. Joey Rodriguez put his Yamaha out front for the first holeshot of the day, followed by Arik Swan and Mike Phillips. McCrummen was around fifth. Swan moved past Rodriguez on the fourth lap and now had his Yamaha out front. Meanwhile, McCrummen was wasting no time making his way through the pack. By the fifth lap, McCrummen had Swan in his sights. With Swan unable to hold off the hard-charging McCrummen, there was a new leader before the end of the sixth lap. McCrummen maintained his fast pace for the remainder and crossed the checkers first with almost 25 laps completedI Swan set his own pace and finished second, with Rodriguez finishing third. Some guys just can't get enough track time. "Sure, let's race another 25 laps - what the heckl" It didn't seem to bother the Intermediate-class riders, as the same riders were now ready to do battle on 250s. This time it was Honda rider Brian Gardner from Santa Cruz with the holes hot. Unfortunately for Gardner, his lead was short-lived. Yamaha riders Swan and Ronnie Raymond made their way past Gardner by the second lap. McCrummen suffered a not-50-great start and rounded the first lap in about 12th. McCrummen once again set a blistering pace and set out after the leaders. It was only a matter of time before the inevitable happened. McCrummen charged all the way to the front by the ninth lap and kept on truckin'. In the end, McCrummen hammered out another 25 laps and scored yet another Victory. lot of riding! The runner-up was again Swan, and Rodriguez finished third. In 8Ccc Novice action, Ricky Rinauro took the win with 20 laps completed after 30 minutes. Rinauro started off strong with a holeshot on his Yamaha and kept it on two wheels for the rest of the race. Rinauro kept charging hard and kept his lead to the finish. Yamaha rider Grayson Swift, out of Summerset, was a strong second-place finisher. Swift rode consistently but was unable to make up time on Rinauro and had to settle for second. Third place went to Sherri Cruse, who came up from Bakersfield to battle with the boys. Cruse, who has been tearing it up in the Women's Amateur ranks, had no problems hanging with the boys. I'm sure we will see her Yamaha on the podium many more times in the future. Just for bragging rights, Jack Hulse put in the fastest laps out of the OTHG races. Hulse got in 20 laps during his race and took the win in the Over 30 Expert class. Matthew "''''''' (~onl. OPEN: I. Brent Nichols (Hon); 2. Mike Ortega (Yam). OTHG 30.. BEG: 1.
