Hot Summer Nights Series Round &: Perris Raceway Lesson Learned BY I'IIIKE "SIR Sl'IIUY" RVER PERRIS, CA, AUG. 17 It's amazing what a top-three finish can do for someone. With 8 third place in round three, and two consecutive overalls and four moto wins in the last two rounds, Brian Broughton has obviously decided he likes the view better from the front of the pack. Spencer Wernli has had his fair share of top-five finishes, and this time he picked up a second overall while trying to run down Broughton in both motos. Brian Ripka picked up third overall with his 3-5 score, while Nick Byers (8-3) and Ryan Jones (9-4) found more throttle in the second moto while chasing each other and finishing out the top five in the 125cc Beginner Division One class. Cody Baker had no problems showing the Perris crowd what he and his Polini can do. Baker cleaned house with two moto wins in both the 50cc (4-6) Modified class and the 50cc (4-6) Stock class. Brian Taylor (2-2) gave pursuit in the Modified class but was unsuccessful in getting close enough to make a move. Dean Spangler (4-3) and Blake Green (3-4) battled as they traded places in both motos; Spangler had a better second moto, for third overall. In the 50cc (4-6) Stock class, Taylor, Spangler and Green tried to keep up with Baker's pace, but they finished eye. e n e _ sa SEPTEMBER 1 B. 2002 47
