was just playing around out there. Red was
trying to catch up to Sellars, but he forgot all
about Lyles. Aboard his Lyle Fiberglass
CR500, Lyles took charge for third. Chisum
easily took the win. Sellars got second, Lyles
was third, and Red was fourth. Scott Kennedy,
Cliff Sullivan and Allan Webster were fifth,
sixth and seventh.
Hometown sensation Pearce grabbed the
number-one spot in the Open final, surrounded by four-strokes. Bagnis was in second, with
Yarrow and Hopfe close by. The top four were
all Hondas. Canet and Lynch were in fifth and
sixth, on Vertematis. Chisum and Salaveria
were next, on KTMs. Pearce, Bagn.is, Yarrow
and Hopfe were all so close you could have
thrown a blanket over them. At this point, they
were heading into lapped riders, which always
becomes a huge factor for Bagnis and Pearce.
Pearce got taken to the wall by the lappers
and Bagnis went low and took the lead. On
the next lap, Yarrow lost his front end and
went down. Bagnis went on for the win, Pearce
was runner-up, and Hopfe placed third.
YZiITOW remounted and made his way back up
to fourth. They were followed by Canet, Lynch
and Chisum.

pie of errors cost him some money on the
day. Shaun Kuchler was real hard on the gas
in the 250 A class, scoring second overall with
a tasty performance and a 3-2 tally.
Craig Garrett looked up to speed as he
flew off with the 125cc B-c1ass overall, with a
wicked 1-1 showing aboard his KTM. Philip
Kinnison, normally a very talented woods
rider, took to the motocross course like a pro
and ran off with both motos of the 250cc B
class. The New Straitsville native, aboard a
Suzuki, was tearing up the jumps around the
hillside facility.
Tracy Pennington could not be beat in the
65cc class. He went 1-1 aboard his KTM SX
65. although Colin Thomas looked real good
as he scored a 2-2 tally on his Kawasaki.
Thomas also won the 50cc (7-8) event.
Kentucky's Jared Wolfe looked fast all day
as he sailed his Yamaha to a 1-1 overall victory in the 16-24 class and second overall in the
I 25cc A class, behind Andrich.
Local rider Levi Kilbarger would not be
stopped. The Schoolboy and Mini Senior
classes belonged to him, as he launched over
the finish-line triple aboard his Ff,S Suzuki
RM 125 and RM85. Kilbarger took four moto
wins and two trophies home with him. The
fast lad from Logan is planning on competing
at Loretta Lynn's AMA Amateur Nationals
in August.
Dillon Peterman of Pataskala stole the
show in the Yamaha Pee Wee 50cc class. He
went 1-2 for the overall, while J.T. Tumer had
a bad day, finishing with a 7-1 shOWing.
Cody Gang ran strong in the Mini Junior
class and ran a close second place in the Mini
Extra class, behind winner Devan Welch.

LOGAN, OH, JUNE 9
Former Pro and now Pee Wee dad Joe Evener
had a fine workout at Wild Wildemess Raceway, as the thirtysomething racer out of
Pataskala. Ohio, ran rampant in a couple of
Vet classes. Putting together great starts and
impressively fast riding, the fitness guru stung
the opposition as he tore off four great races,
handily taking the overalls in the Over 25 and
Over 30 classes. The only rider to give Evener
a hint of trouble was Newark's Brian Gonser who sniffed around at the rear fender of Even·
er's KTM a few times - yet Evener was having
none of it, as he used this warm, wonderful
late spring day to win a couple of trophies.
Evener's son Taylor scored third overall in
the 50cc (4-6) class aboard his KTM 50. Ty
Barlow notched second overall on his Polini,
behind overall winner Alex Arthur of Rockport,
West Virginia.
In the Money classes, it was none other
than Steve "Steve-OM Andrich kicking up
some wins from the lengthy track. His four
moto victories and ultimate mastery of the
125cc and 250cc A classes don't tell the
whole story. David Herb led Andrich - albeit
briefly - and looked fast throughout, yet a cou-

have been thrown over all three of them for
the whole race. "Crazy" Carson Shefts, Marty's
son, picked up fourth in the main.

Victorville Motocross Complex
Mace Clubs 'em
By DON STARK
VICTORVILLE, CA, JUNE 15
The VMC Summer Nights Series is offering a
200-percent payback to the 125cc and 250cc
Pro class. This incentive made for a very
entertaining race for the fans.
When the gate dropped for the first 250cc
Pro moto, Kawasaki jockey Justin Mace led
the pack to the first tum, followed by Yamahamounted Billy Lavorci and Honda pilot Jimmy
Lavorci; trailing them was Suzuki jockey
Jason Dubin. By the halfway mark of the first
lap, Mace was checking out, while the brothers Lavorci settled in for a 10-lap battle.
Younger brother Billy seemed to be pulling
away for the first two laps. and then Jimmy
started to charge, and by lap six Jimmy had
pulled to within striking distance. The crowed
roared every time the two passed the front
straight. With a 75-foot double and then a
90-foot triple and two riders going at it bar to
bar, this was good stuff. On the seventh lap,
Jimmy caught Billy on the double and the pair
launched off the triple; Billy reached out and
tried to grab Jimmy by the jersey. Jimmy flew
wide into the soft landing area and lost a little
ground. The next time past the front straight,
Jimmy was leading, and he pulled away for a
comfortable second-place finish. Billy. with
his goggles around his arm, finished third,
followed by Dubin.
In moto two, Dubin was ready to battle this
time, and he grabbed the early lead, with Billy
Lavorci in second, and the third and fourth
spots taken by Jimmy Lavorci and Mace.
Dubin was sailing up front. while Mace tried to
pass the scrapping Lavorci brothers. Billy was
the first to get dropped by the charging Mace,
while up front the battle between Dubin and
Jimmy was heating up. The lead changed
back and forth for a couple of laps, while
Mace slowly gained ground on them. By lap
five, Dubin was running out of steam, and
Jimmy passed him easily. Then Mace flew by,
like a two-for-one deal at the 99-cent store;
Dubin was dropped to third. Mace - the
youngest rider on the track - was by far in the
best condition also, and this showed in the
later laps of the second moto, as he pulled up
on Jimmy and then passed for the lead
uncontested and went on to ride the last two
laps on cruise control.
