McMullen took first in both 60cc (10-11) motos, with Justin Coley right behind to take second and William Wenk third in both motos, but there would be a change in the fourth and fifth spots. Daniel Goins placed fourth place in moto one, but Justin Shimminger took fourth in the second moto and fourth place overall. McMullen wasn't finished yet. He then took his Kawasaki to first place in both 80cc (7 -11 ) motos. Coley followed McMullen in the first moto, but he did not start the second moto, which really affected the positions of the eight G~ :5 Bmfour; 3. Shayn Adkins: 4. iii S/MJNI: 1. The two biggest movers were Joseph Brown, who finished the first moto in sixth but moved up to fourth in the second to take fourth overall. Coming off an injury last weekend, Thomas Neuens took the last spot in the first moto but got a better start Kellogg Bowls 'em Over By LARRY WOOSTER in the second moto, getting around Devin Whicker at the holeshot corner. Neuens led Whicker on the first lap, and then Whicker crashed out in the back doubles, letting Neuens take sixth in the second moto and sixth overall. In a great mix of Over 30 A, Over 30 B/C, 250cc A and 250cc B racing, local rider Joey McGuire came out hard, with Russ Pickett and Andy Mitchell of the Over 30 A class right behind him. The lone 250cc A rider, Mark Wagner, got caught in the pack at the holeshot and had some making up to do. McGuire went down at the holes hot and worked hard to catch up. As McGuire was making up time on Noah Huskey, he slid out in a tum and Huskey went on to take first in ROCK GLEN, NY, JUNE 8 Silver Springs Racing expanded their first· class motorcycle· racing facility over the winter and spring to include a brand·new Jesse Milley-designed stadiumcross-style track, and 150 riders invaded the Wyoming County facility to help kick off the new Silver Springs Nite-X Series in high style. Many familiar Western New York Motocross Association Inc. faces and machines were on hand for a weekend of fun in the sun. The WNYMA's 30·race series already competes on six Sundays at the facility, so the decision to pair many of the Saturday night six-race Nite-X Series events with WNYMA Sundays made for a great addition to many riders' schedules. knew the second moto was the money race The 250cc Open Beginner class rocked the place, with more than 15 riders taking the drop of the gate for moto one. As this pack of extremely fast riders attacked the holeshot, and he got out in front of Mitchell to get the observers couldn't tell that this first moto was money in the second moto. McGuire was more only for gate choice in moto two (and maybe for more track experience). Charles Kellogg led Joshua Wilmont, Doug Jones and Greg Penlon into turn one. Kellogg jumped out to an early three-second lead, while Wilmont battled bar to bar with hard-charging Barry Austin for the second spot. Kellogg made a the 250cc B portion. Mitchell had put a tire under Pickett and held the first spot in the first moto, but Pickett detennined in the second moto and took the holeshot and took off for a very clean ride in front of all nine riders in the mota and took first overall in the 250cc B class. In the 50cc Shaft class, Kyle Mitchell, son of Andy, took to the track for the first time on his PW50. Kyle turned 4 two weeks ago. He raced with Justin Branch, who took the holeshot and first place in the first moto. In the second moto, Branch took the lead but fell over and Mitchell got by. Branch got back up quickly to pass Mitchell back and get first overall. This was the first of seven races in a series of AMA District 29 races to be held at East Bend Speedway. Riders must race five out of the seven races to be eligible for this special East Bend Speedway series, which will award trophies up to 5 five feet tall. 50 SHAfT: t. Justin Bnmch: 2.. Austin capitalized on Kellogg's mistake to take the lead and the win in moto one, with Wilmont in very close pursuit. Jones managed to hang on to third place. This would surely make moto two even more exciting, as these riders continued to learn the fast way around the new track. When the gate dropped for moto two, Kellogg and Austin got out front fast. As Austin settled in to shadow Kellogg, Dave Stickler and Martin OlOg fought it out for third. Kellogg, Austin and OlOg all rode fast through the track's tight corners. deep whoops, and R••ulb ~I SeIler1;: 4. Josh Sev.: 5. Ryan Certer. 60 (10-11): 1. Kevin McMullen; 2. Justin Coley: 3. This time, while Kellogg set the pace to beat, he avoided that pesky hay bale that had cost him the win in mote one. All Austin could manage to do was keep Kellogg in sight and hang on to second. Meanwhile, Stickler. Olog and Wilmont exchanged the third spot many times, as lbe large crowd cheered for more. Kellogg was able to capture first overall with a four-second lead by not making any mistakes and keeping Austin in second overall. Ozog made a final-lap pass to take third overall. As these and more riders get accustomed to this new stadiumcross·style track as well as competing under the bright lights on Saturday nights, the racing should get even better. The July 6 race (round three) is shaping up to be a firecracker of excitement, with even more riders expected to tackle the new track. Results 50 SHAFT: 1. Brett McMkhaei (Yam); 2.
