exited turn two, Bronson had closed enough to try to make his move on Santangelo. Going into turn three, Bronson made a beautiful pass on Santangelo at the apex and maintained his position down the short chute to turn four. By this time Dreyer had also knocked off Torres for third, with Boyce in fifth. Starting the last lap, Bronson managed to pull out a 10-bike length lead over Santangelo down the front straight that collapsed to about seven bike lengths through the tighter sections of the course, with Santangelo never quite able to close the gap. In the closing moments of the final lap, Santangelo challenged Bronson for the lead and found the 750's straightline power sufficient to score the win, taking the seven-lap event to the wire. There was a 15-second gap back to Dreyer's R6 in third place, now four lengths ahead of Torres' Suzuki 750. .... Carolina Ultra Series Round 2: Camp Coker Motorsports Hovis Comes Back to Burn Up the Sand By MATTHEW MORETZ SOCIETY HIll, SC, APR. 14 n April 14 in Society Hill, South Carolina, Camp Coker was host to round two of the Carolina Ultra Series. The overcast skies and a chance of rain did not stop 350 riders from showing up, ready to play in the sand. By the middle motos, the clouds had parted and the sun was blazing down on the racers and fans. Blake Hovis has fully recovered from his injuries last year and rode to wins in three out of four motos, giving him two overall B-class victories. In 125cc A action, Jon Boruff grabbed the holeshot, but Kevin Walker quickly took the lead and held it to the finish line. Chuck Shirley dusted off his gear to return to racing after several months off and rode to a respectable fourth. Chad Lough rode to third place, and Mark Wagner came in fifth. In moto two, Boruff took the holeshot once again and pulled a lead on Wagner, in second place. Shirley was running third and Walker, after a terrible start, was in fourth, but he quickly made the move on Shirley and Wagner. Walker then charged hard to catch Boruff, and he took the lead on the third lap. At the finish it was Walker, Boruff, Wagner, Shirley and Black. In the first 250cc A moto, Boruff again pulled the holeshot, with Walker hot on his heels. Walker leaped into the lead in the whoops and took O it home to get the checkered flag. Boruff had a mishap that caused him to DNF. The order at the finish line was Walker, James Webb, Mark Wadele, Jerad Black and Wagner. In moto two, Walker finally got his starts figured out and led the race to the finish line. Doug Earls and Black raced each other hard all the way to the finish. The final order was Walker, Earls, Black, Troy Crisp and David Dunbar. In the first 250cc B moto, Hovis pulled the holeshot and won easily, followed by Jason Tucker, who fought off pressure from Willy Baker and Chandler Joyner. Baker pulled the second-moto holeshot, while Hovis appeared to get a bad start. Hovis wanted the lead, so he put the pressure on Joyner, who was running third. Joyner ran wide in a corner, which gave Hovis the opportunity to make his move for third. While just ahead, Tucker bobbled in the whoops, and Hovis, at full steam, took advantage of Tucker's mistake and took second. Baker, still in the lead, could now feel Hovis breathing down his neck. Hovis wasted no time passing him for the win. At the finish, it was Hovis, Tucker, Joyner, Malcolm Klepp and Michael Bonner. In the first 85cc (9-13) moto, Jeremy Stroupe grabbed the holeshot and stayed in the lead for the win. That left Josh McCall and Dustin Kimbrell to battle for second place, with Hunter Jennings charging hard. Camp Coker Motorsports: Jonathan Rhodes cruised to an easy win in the Unlimited Amateur class at the second round of the Carolina Ultra Series in Society Hill, South Carolina. Mitchell got a bad start but was riding smart and he took care of Jennings and Kimbrell in the same corner. McCall bobbled, which left the door open for Mitchell to close the gap. However, there was no time to make the pass for second place. At the finish it was Stroupe, McCall, Mitchell, Kimbrell and Jennings. Stroupe pulled the holeshot again in moto two and went on for another win. Mitchell, with a better start this time, came out second. At the finish it was Stroupe, Mitchell, McCall, Jennings and Kimbrell. Rick Wright grabbed the first Over 35 holeshot, but Matthew Linkous quickly passed for the lead. Wright fell back to fourth, while Mike Taylor took second. Baker, charging hard, did a nice, clean pass on Taylor for second place. By then, Linkous had pulled out a nice lead and started to relax - but Linkous didn't know that Baker was closing the gap fast, and Linkous didn't have time to pick up the pace, and he fell to second place and Baker went on for the win. At the finish it was Baker, Linkous, Taylor, Wright and Keith Nevers. In moto two, Baker picked up where he left off in the first moto and took another win. Todd Ritchie and Wright had a good battle for second, but Nevers, charging hard, passed both riders on 'the back side of the track. Linkous was trying to get to the front after a bad start, and he motored past Wright and Ritchie for third place. On the last lap, Linkous was putting the pressure on Nevers, and he forced him to make a mistake and Linkous passed for second place.
