AMP/&FI Spring Series Round 3: Hollister Hills &P Track Kelly Draws a Pair of Aces Bv JIM AND JUSTIN ENOS HOLLISTER, CA, APR. 14 ound three of the AMP/GFJ Spring Series featured a packed 22 riderfield of Superminis, and Brad Kelly carded a perfect 1-1 moto score to take the overall on the day. Piloting his lucky "777" Yuba City Honda, Kelly relied on skill rather than luck and used a pair of holeshots to secure both moto wins. While Northern California continues to enjoy rain·free weekends, the series, sponsored by Swift Auto World, continues to enjoy good turnouts" More than 400 riders took to the AMP-prepped Hollister Hills GP Track under a sunny, blue sky. Kelly got out front in the first Supermini moto, followed by Buck Ford, Cameron Ewing, Cary Tiede and Justin Posey. Kelly quickly opened up a gap on the field while Justin Enos made his way up through the pack and eventually latched on to Ford and Tiede, who were now running second and third, respectively. However, Kelly made sure the race was for second as he continued to stretch out his lead, while Ford, Tiede and Enos did battle. Tiede made a move on Ford to take over the second spot but gave it right back after an off-track excursion. Enos, unable to capitalize on the mistake, continued to hold down the fourth spot. At the checkers, Kelly crossed the line with a comfortable lead, while Ford barely held off Tiede for the second spot. Enos followed up in fourth. R Colton Haaker, who started out around midpack, charged through the field for fifth. In moto two, Kelly grabbed a huge holeshot, ahead of Ford, Enos, Travis Bell and Tiede. While Kelly again set a fast pace up front, Tiede was also on the gas, passing Bell, Enos and Ford in quick fashion. Ford went down, handing over third to Enos, but Enos struggled to gain any ground as his machine suffered carburetor problems. Meanwhile, Ford rebounded and began catching Enos, eventually making a pass on the last lap. By then, though, both Kelly and Tiede had checked out, with Kelly taking another huge win. Tiede followed up in second, while Ford took the third spot. Enos' bike stalled at the top of the hill with just two turns to go, and Haaker made his way by. Enos ended up fifth. Enos fared better in the 80cc Intermediate class, as he piloted his Yamaha of Modesto YZ to an overall victory over Kelly and Tiede. While Kelly again pulled off a pair of holeshots, he went down while leading the first moto. Tiede took over the lead, with Enos right on his rear fender. The duo battled for several laps until Tiede bobbled, allowing Enos to make the pass for the eventual victory. Kelly rebounded to take the third spot. The trio battled for the second entire moto, and while Enos hounded Kelly, Kelly kept him at bay, taking the important win. While Enos (1-2) took the overall on the day, Kelly's 3-1 score gave him second overall, over Tiede, who went 2-3. Ford handled things in the 80cc Novice class with a pair of back-toback moto wins. The Kawasaki jockey absconded with the holeshot in both motos and never looked back en route to huge wins. In moto one, Ford checked out on the field early while a pack of five riders battled for the second spot. Kyle Smith held the spot all the way to the checkers, and Haaker, Daniel Washington and Josh Fittro rounded out the top five. Ford once again pulled a disappearing act on the field in moto two while another five-rider pack struggled for the second spot. This time it was Fittro holding off the pack, followed by Justin Posey, Bell and Haaker. However, Haaker turned it up, moving through the pack and taking a well-deserved second. Bell followed up in third, while Brian Whitley and Fittro seemingly came out of nowhere, crossing the finish line side by side, with Whitley grabbing the fourth spot. Haaker (3-2) took second overall on the day, followed by Smith (2-6), Bell (7-3) and Fittro (5.-5). A huge 80cc Beginner class called for double divisions, and it was Austin McCrory who snagged the overall in Division One, over James Welsh. Fire & Police Motocross Nationals Round 2: Penis Raceway McKenna Keeps 'em on Lockdown Bv PERRIS, CA, APR. 16 t the second round of the Fire & Police Motocross Nationals, Eric McKenna of the California Department of Corrections swept both 18-29 Expert moto. Rich Stephens of the San Louis Obispo Sheriffs Department kept McKenna honest in both motos while finishing a close second, just ahead of Kris Lavoie of the Ontario Police Department. San Marcos' Matt Hampton pulled off the holeshot and the win in moto one of the 18-29 Intermediate class, with Berkeley Northrop and Dieter Klausing on his rear fender. Northrop tried to find a way around Hampton but would have to settle for second in moto one and hope for a chance at
