Amber n __ S By CONNIE JOHNSON WELLSTON, OK, MAR. 10 olt Nichols put his Polini on top of the podium in the 50cc (7-8) class at Sooner State Cycle Park, site of round four of the Oklahoma State Championship Series. After a lessthan-stellar start, Nichols moved his way to the front of the pack in moto one. Taylor Hooley kept his Cobra in front for as long as he could, but Nichols made the pass on the whiteflag lap. Hooley followed him across the finish line, with three KTM riders behind him - Tyler Smith, Frankie Workman and Ashton Fitzgibbon. Fitzgibbon got the jump off the gate in moto two but was quickly swallowed up by Nichols, who led the rest of the race. Hooley put the pressure on Fitzgibbon, trading some paint and banging some bars in the S turn before the finish line, managing to put himself in second place as the checkers came out. Fitzgibbon C hung on to third, with Smith and Polini pilot Sky Richards rounding out the top five. Yamaha rider Jacob Leatherwood dominated the 80cc Junior class, getting out in front early and never looking back. Justin Berry got the holeshot in moto one on his KTM, but something went wrong. At the end of lap one, he had dropped to fifth place but was charging hard and obviously not going to settle for that position. Jamie Siever and Kerry Moore Jr., both on Yamahas, were having such a good battle for second that they never saw Berry coming. As Leatherwood walked away with first, Berry worked hard to get into second, and Siever, Moore and Honda jockey David Wood Jr. finished out the top five. Moto two was another walk in the park for Leatherwood. Berry had an easier moto, too - until the last lap. Berry, Wood and Siever were close Sooner State Cycle Park: In Wellston. Oklahoma, site of the fourth round of the Oklahoma State Championship Series, SOcc (7-8) rider Colt Nichols put in his five cents' worth by lassoing three wins in three races.
