CMC Northwest Winter Motocross Series Round 11: Albany Motorsports Park STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY liGHT ALBANY, OR, MAR. 10 amaha-mounted Washingtonian Dale Ainslie showed just how good a mud rider he really is with his two dominating overall Intermediateclass victories at the penultimate round of the CMC Northwest Winter Series at Albany Motorsports Park. Ainslie, who was making his series debut, scored the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate-class victories, snapping Pete Sannan's current streak in the 125cc class in the process. Heavy rain throughout the week with as much as an inch of precipitation on several days - left the normally superb track a quagmire. Ainslie found the conditions to his liking, first scoring a win in the competitive 125cc Intermediate class. It was anticipated that a Sannan-Ainslie showdown would be among the day's best battles, as coming into the round Washington's Dale Ainslie was a double-class winner at the penultimate round of the CMC Northwest Wlnter Motocross Series, posting 125cc and 250CC B-c:lass wins. motos, Ainslie darted to the head of the field and remained there to the finish to nab his first of two overall wins on the day. Sannan finished a distant second, although the KTM rider from Albany still maintains the points lead in the class with one round remaining. Honda-mounted Cody Buyas' 3-3 p~rformances netted the 15-year-old third overall. Ainslie came back several motos later to do a similar number on the competition, this time in the 250cc Intermediate class, where his second of two overall wins on the day came in front of Yamaha YZ426F pilot Nick Foister and Honda-mounted Buyas. Buyas trailed Ainslie at the finish in moto one, but Foister netted runnerup to Ainslie in moto two, thus earn- Jesse Wuori sloshed to victory in the Supermini class with 1-1 scores at Albany Motorsports Part<.. Sannan was on an amazing win streak. Sannan's streak, though, would end here at the outdoor opener. Oregon's Keith Kadell was the lone Pro rider in attendance, but when the Honda rider bolted for refuge from the wind and rain, this left only a slim field of Intermediates to do battle in the 125cc ranks. Kawasaki rider Mark Mattheisen scored a win in one of the day's largest classes, the Over 40 Amateur class, with 1-2 placings. Mattheisen was on his way to a 1-1 sweep of the class when he fell in the sloppy conditions in the early stages of moto n __ s two and allowed Honda rider James Miller to score a win aboard his Honda XR600. Joe Casey, the lone Money-class contestant, had a good battle with Miller during the later stages of the moto, but Miller's thundering XR sprayed Casey with a constant roost and Casey backed off the pace to finish second. Miller, though, netted a 14th-place finish in moto one, aiding in Mattheisen's overall win, via 1-2 placings. Glenn Gorst (3-4) and Grant Brown (5-3) rounded out the top three but, perhaps, the biggest winner was fourth-place finisher Bill Farrell. With his finish, the Husqvarna rider wrapped up his series-long quest for the class title, as his closest rival, Zack McLain, had an off day in the slop and went 10-14, although he still maintained second place in the series' standings. One of the day's most successful of the mud riders was Suzuki jockey Jesse Wuori, who dominated both Brad Batchelor used a 2-1 tally in the muddy conditions in Albany, Oregon, to best the field of 250cc Beginner contestants. Supermini-class motos, putting as much as a 10-second gap on the rest of the field, as in his moto-two performance. The 13-year-old took control of the points battle in the class, as his next-closest rival, Aaron McClinton, struggled a bit in the first moto, finishing fourth. McClinton came back to finish an impressive second in moto two, which was good for second overall, but he saw his title hopes slip away a bit, as Wuori's day was finalized with a 63-point advantage. Wuori also was successful in the 80cc age-group ranks, where he also was a double-moto winner in the 80cc (12-13) class, topping Nathan Whitlow, who remains a close second in points to Wuori, and McClinton, who with 3-3 consistency netted third overall. Jared Wood and Jeff Jenkins scored wins in combined the 80cc Junior (7-11) and 80cc Beginner classes, respectively. Like his younger brother Jesse, Ricky Wuori was also a double-class winner. The 14-year-old topped the Before The Hill and 125cc Junior classes, winning three of four motos contested. Nick Randklev looked to have a handle on the first 125cc Junior moto, but he crashed - twice and his day was then ended by a broken radiator. Wuori (1-1), Stephen Scott (2-2) and Jake Justen (3-3) filled out the top three overall. eN Albany MatDrsports P_rIc Alb_ny, Ontgon Results: ~n:h 10, 2002 lReund 11 of 12J PfW (0-6): I.
