CMC Golden State Nationals Pacific Northwest Region Round 2: Forster Livestock Pavilion (Left) Tiger Lacey dominated ali four 125cc and 250cc Pro motos at round two of the CMC Golden State Nationals, Pacific Northwest Region. (Below) Mike Corder was Lacey's closest competition, finishing second in both Pro classes. Pete Sannan scored a three-class win tally, posting victories In the Schoolboy, 125cc and Before The Hili intermediate classes at Forster Livestock Pavilion. SALEM, OR, FEB. 10 resh from a break in the AMA 125cc West Supercross Series, Suzuki rider Tiger Lacey and Kawasaki-mounted Mike Corder clashed in two Professional classes at round two of the CMC Golden State Nationals at Forster Livestock Pavilion. Lacey, who this season is also a part-time player in the Speed Stick National Arenacross Series, won the 125cc and 250cc Pro classes, beating Corder in both. Also logging impressive performances were Washington's Ryan Villopoto, who topped all four of his 80cc (12-13) and Supermini motos, and Oregon's Pete Sannan, who was a three-class winner, matching his mark from the series' opener by going undefeated in the Schoolboy, 125cc and Before The Hill Intermediate classes. Joining Lacey in the Professional-class winners' circle was Honda CR450 pilot Gary Beyer, winner of the Vet (Over 25), Open and Over 30 events. There were also numerous other double-class winners, including KTM rider Gared Steinke, who was victorious in the 60cc Senior and 60cc Open classes, but perhaps the day's most stellar performances came from Cobra- and Kawasaki-mounted Steele Angle-Davidson. The rider from Tumer, Oregon, logged double-moto wins in three classes - Pee Wee (7-8), 50cc Open, and 60cc Junior - and also put in a runaway performance in the halftime Husky Challenge race. Lacey's pace, though, was unparalleled, as the Answer/Pro CircuitfMaxxisbacked rider from Wolf Creek, Oregon who made the main event at the opening round of the AMA 125cc West Supercross Series, finishing 16th - led every lap of all four 125cc and 250cc Pro-class motos contested. In the first 125cc Pro moto, Lacey pulled the trigger fastest to lead Washington's Tyson Blood, Corder and the rest of the field on an opening-lap parade. Corder narrowed the gap on Lacey late in the moto, but Lacey's advantage was too great for the Team Green/Pro Circuit/Shoei-supported rider to overcome. The closest of all the Lacey-Corder showdowns came in the second moto. Lacey managed to slingshot to the head of the field, while Corder was buried midpack. Corder clawed his way into contention after getting around Sannan, the top Intermediate rider, and then slashed into Lacey's lead. With one lap left, Corder was within a wheel length, but when the two bumped, it was Lacey with the advantage at the finish. Lacey grabbed the lead at the drop of the gate in the first 250cc Pro moto, followed by Suzuki-mounted Washing'tonian J.R. Vielle, Corder, Matt Williams and Jason Matthews. Corder trailed Vielle for several laps, but second-year Pro Vielle was dropped to third when veteran Corder executed a perfect block-pass. This time, however, Lacey's advantage was too great for Corder to overcome. Corder, Vielle, Matthews and Williams rounded out the top five. In moto two, Lacey nabbed another of his patented holeshots, while Honda riders Matthews and Williams ran second and third. Corder was mired midpack but steadily progressed through the field each lap to make a late-race pass on Matthews and garner second at the finish. Overall, Lacey's twoclass sweep came to pass with his 1- 1 finishes, followed by Corder (2-2), Matthews (4-3), Vielle (3-5) and Williams (5-4). The other top performer in the remaining Professional classes, Beyer, put in six impressive motos aboard the Sinisalo/Gran Prix Cycles-backed Honda thumper. Beyer beat Matthews to the finish in both Vet (Over 25) motos, while third overall went to J.R. Meusling to finalize a top-three sweep for the Honda marque. Beyer's tripleclass decimation was then complete after doing similar damage in the Over 30 class, in which he topped Suzuki rider Jamie Claassen, Bob Kivisto, Dave Fox and David Sibley. Sannan's stellar day came after facing tough competition in taking two of his three overall wins. Yamaha rider Raym Conkey and Pro rider Williams put pressure on Sannan in the Before The Hill class, but Sannan was not to be denied after sweeping the Schoolboy and 125cc Intermediate classes. Villopoto, riding the Yamaha Motor Corp./No Fear/Brothers PowersportsjSpy - sponsored YZs, was too much for the competition on this day. Without arch-rival Josh Hill on hand, Villopoto put huge ground on the competition in the Supermini and 80cc Age Group classes. Fellow Yamaha riders Matt Wilson and Travis McMackin trailed the rider from Poulsbo, Washington, in the two classes, respectively.
