As for Cabestany, the Spaniard erred only in the difficult double-box portion of section one, posting a six in the heat and taking the top spot. Freixa, on the contrary, fived the fifth zone, where he was caught moving backward with his foot down. His loop score was 12, and barely made the final. The final rider to go was Lampkin, who started well but grabbed a three in the waterfall section and then hit the bar on the high jump, picking up another three points. His score was 11, which was also barely enough to earn a slot in the final. The four riders to make the program were Cabestany, Fujinami, Raga and Lampkin, and in the final, all would have to run the sections in the opposite direction. The entire group was tied after the first three sections (two cleans and a five for each). In section four, Cabestany was the only one able to post a clean within the time limit (all the others cleaned it, but got a point for taking too long). Section five was the turning point: Lampkin and Raga failed, while Fujinami got a one and Cabestany scored a zero. That was the decider, and the final results had Cabestany earning the victory, with second place going to Fujinami and Lampkin climbing to the third step of podium. ~j1 I I i i ~ DAve Despite the fact that Sunday didn't pay World Championship points, the event was again a sell-out. Still shaky after his Saturday crash, Delle Gandine did not compete. The qualifying surprise was the elimination of Lampkin, who crashed in section two. Raga and Cabestany were the top qualifiers, scoring only one point. Behind them was Freixa, ready to avenge the poor performance of Saturday. Only three riders advanced to the final, as organizers altered the rules to speed up the show. This time, Cabestany made two big mistakes, not climbing section three or section five, while Freixa rode perfectly and clinched the victory. Raga lost a few points more than Cabestany and finished third. ,.I.stamp. Ar... T_iII, Italy Result<: J•••• ry 26-27. 2112 SAT (WRLD R!'ID): 1. Albert Cabestany (Bet) 7; 2.
