World Championship Indoor Trials Series
Round 4: Palastampa A
another overall win two weeks ago
in Germany.
The six riders invited to contest the
entire series are Brit Doug Lampkin,
Japanese Takahisa Fujinami, and
Spaniards Marc Freixa, Adam Raga,
Marc Colomer and Cabestany (each
separate promoter is also allowed to
invite two wild-card riders). Lampkin,
the World outdoor champ, had won
his home opener, and Cabestany got
his first eyebrow-raising victory at
round two. Freixa topped all comers
in France, setting up a good showdown for Turin (the three winners
were within two points in the standings).
With little to lose, Cabestany was
on fire all weekend, riding in an
inspired manner that was popuJ.lH

lines through the challenging sections, Cabestany topped the competition on Saturday and was the runnerup on Sunday's exhibition outing (not
valid for the series).
DAY '1
First to face the sections was Italian Champion Dario Re Delle Gandine, one of the two wild-card entries
(the other was Brit Steve Colley). The
Italian suffered a big crash in section
one, falling from the highest box,
then lost some time making repairs.
Soon after, Delle Gandine took another tumble in the section, forcing him
to retire from the competition.
CoUey then became the first rider
to face the sections, and his score
was unexceptional. Colomer, furious
at haVing belatedly picked up a five
in section four (his mistake was initially missed by the marshal, and his
score had to be corrected by a member of the international jury), posted a
heat score of 13, and was excluded
injured Brit Graham Jarvis had to
withdraw. Despite his substitute
status, Cabestany took the Italian
Indoor round by storm, riding in his
normal spectacular style (weight
back, often wheelying over obstac1es) and collecting the overall victory. Not only that, but the
Spaniard is actually leading the
series overall, thanks in part to
