Dade City Raceway Dade City, Flaride Results: January 13, 2002 IRaund 31 STORY AND PHOTOS BY CRAIG JOHNSON AND ANGELA HARDEN DADE CITY, FL, JAN. 13 yson Hadsell shined at Dade City Raceway, site of the third round of the Florida Winter Ams. He was the rider to beat, as he won all four Pro motos on the day. Hadsell never got a holeshot in the 125cc Pro class, but he wasted no time moving to the front. The 250cc Pro class was not much different: He led unchallenged from start to finish. After a brief rain shower the night before, the track was in great condition, and 483 riders showed up on this warm, sunny day. In the first 125cc Pro moto, Bryan Johnson pulled the holeshot, followed by Paul Perebijnos, Barry Carsten, Billy Wood, Hadsell and Troy Adams. Hadsell moved into fourth by the end of lap one. As the pack jumped down into the back section, Hadsell moved to third. By lap three, Hadsell was looking to pass Johnson; by the next lap, it was done. The field sorted itself out; behind Hadsell were Johnson, Perebijnos, Carsten and Adams. Adams caught the top four and was looking to move up. Before the halfway flag, Johnson went down and dropped to eighth. The order shuffled again behind Hadsell; Carsten and Adams put Perebijnos back to fourth, and Keith Bowen moved to fifth. After a very bad start, Tony Lorusso was charging. Bowen lost fifth to Lorusso as the race was coming to an end. By the last lap, Lorusso was right on Perebijnos. Lorusso got the drive coming out of the back and made the T 34 FEBRUARY 6, 2002' cue • e pass over the tabletop for fourth. Hadsell cruised to a 10-second win, and Carsten fought off Adams for second. In the second moto, Vaughn Jed until Hadsell gobbled him up through the whoops. That was all Hadsell needed to pull out another convincing win. The battle was for second for the rest of the moto. The order behind Hadsell was Johnson, Carsten, Brian Gray and Lorusso. The order stayed the same for the next couple of laps, as the top five pulled away. A couple of laps before the halfway mark, Johnson went down, this time only dropping to fifth. At halfway, Gray and Lorusso passed Carsten coming out of the back section. Hadsell won, while Lorusso tried many times to pass Gray but had to settle for third. Carsten and Johnson were a few seconds back in fourth and fifth. Hadsell pulled his first holeshot of the day in the 250cc Pro class, over Adams, Lorusso, Bowen and Jarrett Tipping. By the end of lap two, Tipping had lost fifth to Kyle Garro and Carsten. Lorusso started losing touch with Hadsell and Adams, as the two motored away. By lap three, Garro had dropped out, moving Carsten to fifth. Carsten caught Bowen and got the drive coming out of the back section to make the pass. Gray passed Bowen next. The order stayed the same for the remainder of the moto as the top five spread out. Hadsell won, and Adams, Lorusso, Carsten and Gray rounded out the top five. In moto two, Hadsell fought off Lorusso for the holeshot. Following the two were Adams, Gray and Carsten. n e _ so By lap two, Hadsell had motored away again. Lorusso fought off Adams for a couple of laps until Adams made the pass. Gray and Carsten battled for fourth and fifth, with Carsten finally pulling away in the closing laps. As the moto came to an end, the top five - Hadsell, Adams, Lorusso, Carsten and Gray - stayed the same. In the first 85cc (7 -11) moto, Dominic lzzi pulled the holeshot and just dominated the whole moto. Colten Maynard tried to stay close and keep Izzi honest. Robert Tiesler started fourth and moved into third after Chase Couture fell and dropped back. Karel Benoit and Max Rash finished fourth and fifth. Maynard led the second moto until falling off. Izzi also fell on the first lap. lzzi, Maynard and Rash passed Tiesler in the closing laps for first, second and third. Benoit rounded out the top five. Justin Hall led the first 65cc (7-9) outing before going down and eventually finishing the moto in sixth. Tyler Moore took over and pulled out for the win. Wilfredo Guzman took the runner-up honors. Michael Clarke lost third on the last lap to Johnnie Gargano, and Ian Chia finished fifth. Clarke took the second-moto holeshot, only to lose it to Guzman by the end of the first lap. Clarke dropped to fourth and battled back to challenge for second by the end of the moto. Robby Huss started fifth and beat Guzman for the second spot. Kalen Fitzpatrick started third and dropped one spot to fourth, and Chia finished fifth again. CN WMN: 1. Marisa Hampshire (Kaw); 2. April Hodges (Suz); 3. Jessye Davis (Yam); 4.
