"I had a great weekend - the best this year," said Neese. "I had a great weekend on my 250, going 1-1 for the weekend. I got great starts in both 250cc mains. I just hope to keep it up." Brian Stone won Friday night's 125cc Pro/Expert main, and Brandon Bartz won it on Saturday night. This was the first win this year for both riders. Stone also placed third in the 250cc main on Friday. Saturday was a different story for Stone, as he was unable to break into the top five in either main. "I had a great night Friday," said Stone. "I felt that I could have repeated it, but it didn't happen Saturday." As the National Series was taking the weekend off, Bartz decided to get some time on his new bikes. After falling short in both mains on Friday night, Bartz came back Saturday focused and determined to take a win. After the 125cc main, it looked like Bartz could have a perfect night, as he dominated the race on his KX125. However, in the 250cc main, he saw his chance for a perfect night disappear when Neese got by him. "I am happy to put the Tuf Racing Kawasaki on top," said Bartz. "I had a few problems Friday night, but I was able to focus and pull off the win. I want to thank my mechanic, Brandt, and Junior Jackson for their help. They really helped me focus and realize what I needed to do to win. I hope to make the podium again." Though he didn't win any mains this weekend, Jim Chester was able to take over the overall points lead. Due to personal reasons, overall points leader Nick Metcalf was missing this weekend, and this gave Chester a chance to put 48 points between himself and Metcalf. Going 2-2 on Friday, Chester was able to get closer to the points leader. Saturday's 125cc main was going well until the last lap, when he and another rider went down in the last turn before the finish. This dropped him back to a seventh-place finish. In the 250cc main, Chester was able to hold on to third place until the finish line. "I am happy how the weekend went and real happy to take over the overall points," said Chester. "Friday night was great, going 2-2. I would have wished for a better finish in the 125cc main Saturday, but things happen. I got a good start the whole weekend. I just hope I can hold on to the points lead now." In Friday's 125cc main, Stone, Chester and Neese gave the crowd a great race as the three battled for the win. In the end, Stone held on to take his first win for the year, with Chester a close second, while Neese settled for third. Taking fourth for the night was Mike Katin, with Randy Valade finishing out the top five. 44 JANUARY 16, 2002' cue • e > Neese took the Dash For Cash on Friday, showing a few racers what they had in store for the 250cc main. In the 250cc main, Neese again pulled off the win. Chester again held on to second, getting closer to the overall lead. After a great race in the 125cc main, Stone was unable to repeat the win, and he had to settle for third. National Arenacross rider Bartz pulled in fourth after a 10thplace finish in the 125cc main. Rounding out the top five was supercross rider Paul Carpenter. In Saturday's 125cc main, it was another Kawasaki rider taking the win. After an average Friday night, Bartz was able to come back and take his first overall win for the year. Second went to Husqvarna rider Katin, who was unable to catch Bartz's KX 125. Valade was able to move up two spots when two riders went down in the turn before the finish line. Fourth went to Nathan Tiearney, and fifth went to local New Yorker Barry Carsten. Saturday night's Dash For Cash winner was YZ250 rider Paul Carpenter, as he was able to prevent the previous night's winner, Neese, from scoring back-to-back wins. In Saturday's 250cc main, Neese again took the win. After leading the first part of the main, Bartz had to settle for second. This time, Chester held on to third - and became the new overa II points leader. Rounding out the top five were Katin and Aaron Dieter. eN Blue Cross Arena Rochester, New Yor1c Results: December 7-B, 2001 (Round 5 of 221 Friday FINISH DFC: I. Jim Neese (Hus); 2.
