the fastest time in the C, Super Senior, Senior and Junior race. The race first ran through a mile of short-track, TT and Vintage motocross track before dumping into the four miles of mud and tight woods trails. This gave riders a chance to spread out before hitting the rough stuff. Roots and pallet mud crossings were the obstacles of the day. "They should call this the Pallet Hare Scrambles," commented Waldrop after 42 very fast, very tough miles. The NFSAMC did a great job of providing pallet bridges and alternate paths through several mudholes. Club members were on hand to help stricken riders at the worst of the mud crossings. Fortunately, the rest of the course provided excellent traction and no dust. Many riders commented that they looked forward to the trails "across Earl, who charged hard the last two laps, dropping lap times by as much as 30 seconds, but it wasn't quite enough to better his position. These three AA riders all ran consistent 16and 17-minute laps and finished within two minutes of each other for an overall race time of just over two hours. In the 200cc B class, less than 30 seconds separated first-placed rider Michael Belcher from second-placed Adrian Cervais, and in the Vet B class, only four seconds separated firstplaced Mark Evans and second-placed Mark Tatum. Those seconds on the trail add up, and you never know when that quick slow-down in the mud will cost you a place in the standings. Following the races, the "smallest riders" were given a chance to show off their abilities around the Vintage motocross track. All riders received a trophy for their efforts. Daniels Ridge Supercross: Kawasaki jockey Justin Barringer won the Schoolboy class and placed runner-up in the 12Scc C class at the third round of the Daniels Ridge Supercross FalVWinter Series in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Scoring was done with bar codes, so each rider knew his standing in his class better. Even Mother Nature was in a good mood and provided cool but TAYLORSVILLE, NC, NOV. 4 after he was scored for that lap. The largest class of the day was the Open C class, with 19 riders. Shannon Welch, a 17 -year-old rider from Jimmison, Alabama, rode a 250cc KTM to first place with an overall time of I :22:28. This win should clench Welch's first-place SERA helmet. Welch was the first rider around the course, putting in an incredible 9:25 first-lap time. Mark Culwell and Charles Schou lin also logged nine-minute first laps, but from that point on lap times stretched to 17 and 18 minutes as the faster riders started to encounter slower riders and the destroyed trail. Another rider who secured his SERA helmet was Gary Goff of Birmjngham, Alabama, riding a Husaberg in the Super Senior class. Goff won his class by finishing the last two laps faster - yes, faster - than the first three laps. Mike Culwell and Tallahassee Trail Rider president Jack Martin finished second and third. The closest racing of the day was in the AA class. First off the line in the second race, these boys blazed through the battered course at amazing speeds. Carsten Cagle led for most of the first lap, but Waldrop passed him before the bar code tent and then led the rest of the seven-lap race. Carsten kept up the pace and stayed in second place.
