CMC TransCal Series South Round 4: Competition Park passed in both 125cc outings was Joel Nelson, on an FMFrrhor-backed Yamaha - the same Nelson who also claimed the second-place prize money in the 250cc Pro division behind the consistent-running Billy Lavorci, on the No Fear Suzuki. Behind Lord was a terrific battle for runner-up Intermediate betwe~n Scott Simon and Erik Meyer, the latter being the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate winner a week ago at Perris. Simon used a last-lap pass of Meyer's Inland Wheel/Maxxis Yamaha in the final moto to claim the second-place honors on his Fox/Oakley Yamaha. Simon also won the 250cc Intermediat,,: contest but skipped the Supermini class he aced a week ago. His absence in that class left a void, which was filled quickly by Joshua Grant, who is sponsored by FMF and Honda of Houston. In each moto, he spurted to a quick lead, only to nearly caught by Jarred Browne on his Kawasaki by the midway point. That's when Grant got his jAbove left) Despite an uncooperative engine that knocked him out of the first 250cc Pro moto, Michael Young won three out of four motos on the day, taking the overall 125cc Pro victory at the fourth round of the CMC TransCal Series South. Bv JOHN BETHEA PHOTOS BV BILL CLIFTON SAN JACINTO, CA, OCT. 7 hings started out haphazardly _ again for Michael Young, which is typical of the way things have been for the IMS/SMP/Thor-sponsored Yamaha rider who has been in and out of the lead in just about every moto he's entered in the White Brothers TransCal Series. This day marked the final qualifying program before the showdown slated for Marysville in two weeks. Young's campaign of this series began a month ago, when he seized his motor on the second lap while leading the very first race of the day, the 125cc Pros, and it has been a roller-coaster ride since. On this day, again in the very first moto of the program, Fate took another swipe at Young, knocking him down in the first turn with a stalled engine that refused to refire while the rest of the field pulled out a half-lap lead. He never could catch up in that moto, but victories in the second 250cc Pro moto and both 125cc Pro motos did round out what was left of his day, giving him at least one overall for his efforts. Stealing much of the spotlight from Young's sweep of the 125s was Intermediate Dylan Lord, on a PC and factory-backed Suzuki, coming from the second wave. In both outings, 62 OCTOBER 31.2001 • second wind and scooted away for back-to-back moto aces and the Competition Park San Jacinto, Califomia (Above) Dylan Lord won the 125cc Intermediate contest In San Jacinto, California, in the process catching most of the Pro field, which had left on the previous wave. (Above) Joshua Grant took back·toback moto wins for the overall Supermini victory at Competition Park. (Right) Jimmy Robinson topped the Over 25 Masters class. Lord tamed his opposition and in the process caught the rest of the Pro field to earn not only his class win but second overall in the race, provoking much speculation that his racing career may soon see prize money instead of trophies when results are posted in the near future. To give even more substance to Lord's performance, consider that one of the Pro riders he caught and n e _ :IS cue •• overall. The only double-class winner on the day was Brooke Bohannon, in the Pee Wee (7-8) and 60cc Beginner classes. The young lady is sponsored by Throttle Junkie on a Cobra and 60cc Kawasaki.
